ND: Curse of Blackmoor Manor - Sunday 10/31/2004 by CaliGirl
Her Interactive has recently released Nancy Drew: Curse of Blackmoor Manor just in time for Halloween! Take on the role of Nancy Drew as she takes her first overseas trip to England to visit a newly married friend, Linda.  The recent bride is now living in her husband Hugh Penvellyn’s ancestral home, Blackmoor Manor.  But Linda is not feeling well and isn’t seeing any visitors. Nancy tries to uncover the truth behind Linda’s illness.

The estate and its residents are shrouded in a mystery entrenched in the 14th century.  The Penvellyn family itself is filled with fascinating ancestors: Lady Elinor was burned at the stake as a witch in the 17th century; Brigette, a 19th century astronomer who never married and adopted her sister's son Richard; and Alan, a 20th century computer scientist who was a noted researcher in computers and languages. The younger additions to the Penvellyn clan also have a knack for heating up the family dynamics.

Linda is already acting peculiar and there’s a precocious young teenager named Jane who was raised in the US and recently returned to Blackmoor Manor.  While players investigate the charismatic and unusual relatives, there is also the constant banter from a chatty parrot named Loulou, who offers unlimited commentary for players about goings-on at the estate, past and present. Roam through the manor in order to find and tie together clues. Curse of Blackmoor Manor is jammed with new puzzles based on heraldry, astronomy and alchemy.

id Tattoo Contest - Tuesday 10/19/2004 by CaliGirl
Todd Hollenshead from id Software has updated his .plan file with news concerning id-related tatoos! He states:

"...I know there must be a ton out there that no one here even knows about, but we think they're pretty cool, and might even be worth having a contest to get people to send us pics of their tats. So, here's the deal: email me a genuine id-related tatoo photo of you or someone you know who has one. It's probably best to take a couple different pics if you can. Whoever has the best legitimate tatoo, judged in my sole discretion (with maybe some help from the team) will get one free copy of DOOM 3 + strategy guide + new "Making Of DOOM 3" book and I'll sign the game box for you. Now, I'm not trying to encourage people to go out and get a tatoo - this is supposed to be for those who already have one. If we get enough cool entries, the idea is that we'll compile and frame all the photos and put them in a big frame to hang on the wall here at id. That's a pretty good consolation prize if you don't get the game/guide/book. This isn't an "official" contest, so I'm not going to post lengthy lawyerly rules." [Further Details]

Half-Life 2 Goes Gold! - Monday 10/18/2004 by CaliGirl
VU Games announced that Half-Life 2 will ship to stores November 16, 2004. In 1998, Half-Life sent a shock through the game industry with its combination of pounding action and continuous, immersive storytelling. Now we are told HL2 will bring suspense, challenge and visceral charge of the original, adding startling new realism and responsiveness. Once again you pick-up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted, its populace dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa. A lot of people he cares about are counting on him.
