According to Animation Magazine, the New TNN has announced that it will exclusively broadcast the first-ever televised video game awards show. The two-hour awards ceremony will be executive produced by Albie Hecht, president of Nickelodeon, film and TV entertainment. It is slated to air during the fourth quarter of 2003. The Video Game Awards will honor the best video games as voted by players and fans.

Categories will include: Hottest Hero and Heroine, Most Addictive, Coolest Villain, Best All-Around Badass, Most Difficult to Master, Best Free For All Carnage, Best Soundtrack, Hottest Graphics, Best Kick Ass Weapon, Best Game based on a Movie and Best Celebrity Actor and Actress in a Game, Best Pro-Sports Game.   • A New Battlefield 1942 Multiplayer Map hits the streets. Electronic Arts and DICE spread a little holiday cheer with Battle of Coral Sea.
  • Sven Co-op 2.1 For Half-Life has been released. The latest version of the HL co-op mod includes new monsters, a new weapon, new maps, new monster abilities, as well as some bug fixes and improvements. (Thanks PHL)
  • XGR Presents America's Army Interview Tonight. Alex Mayberry is the Executive Producer and Creative Director for America's Army, the free Unreal Engine based game which was released last July. Tune in for the shoutcast interview tonight at 9:30 PM EST.
  • 3D Realms Release Rise of the Triad Source. They are dedicating this release to late ROTT programmer William Scarboro. They also offer up several other ROTT related downloads.   • Tribes 3 in the works is the big scoop of the day! Alex Rodberg from Sierra dropped some very promising sounding hints on TribalWar. Apparently an official announcement will be made some time next year.
  • WildStar's RtCW Maps debuts on PlanetWolfenstein, bringing the Wolf community a much needed easy to browse RtCW map depot. I also feel compelled to mention that WildStar is a fellow game gal, drop by and check out her site!
  • VALVe has released a new Half-Life Primary Server Beta for Windows and Linux. The latest release fixes a flashbang grenade bug in Counter-Strike. More details can be found in the included readme file.
  • GameSpy Previews PlanetSide, a massively multiplayer FPS in the works by Sony Online. PlanetSide is described as sort of an EverQuest / Quake hybrid, with gameplay kind of resembling that of Tribes, Battlefield 1942 and even C&C: Renegade. Confused and aroused at the same time? Read more!

  • GameSpy's Gamers' Choice Awards offer up a chance to place your votes for the best games of 2002. Categories include best action game, best strategy game, consoles and more.
  • Digtal Extremes' James Schmalz is in the spotlight on Gaming Invasion where they have the first part of an interview with the company's founder and creative director. Topics of discussion include the success of Unreal Tournament and more.
  • Shacknews Game of the Year Voting is open, awarding the best PC and Console games of 2002. Categories and games included differ slightly from that of the GameSpy Gamers' Choice Awards mentioned above.

If you've ever thought it'd be rather cool to play Doctor Moreau and build your own army of crossbred animals, then now's your chance! A demo has been released for Relic's Impossible Creatures real-time strategy. The 258MB demo includes three single-player missions, a tutorial and two player versus CPU maps. Events Update: Thanks to aNouC I was able to get rid of some confusion on a few Europe tournaments. The CPL Cologne 2000 event had some changes done to the page.  I also added new events like CPL Holland, Female Nations Cup and CPL Cologne 2001. Other link additions include Dragoncon w/WomenGamers.com and Quakecon 99 w/GameGirlz.

Chat Update: About 14 MIRC channels have been added that are general games & clan related. As for forums, there's 4 general, 10 clans and 1 League added.

Fixed bug in Anti-lag weapon prediction code where Player's body remains present, animated with Medic icon - Even when player has "tapped out". Fixed miscellaneous issues in anti-lag code that generated unpredictable results.

Action Roundup - Jube

  • RTCW: Enemy Territory Screenshots are available for viewing on PC, PS2 and Xbox versions at GameSpyDaily today. Fact sheets for both versions of RtCW are also posted.
  • System Shock 2 is in the spotlight today as HomeLAN continue their Cult Action Game Series. The article includes quotes from Irrational Game's co-founder and President, Ken Levine. Read up.
  • Carbon6's American McGee Interview at Computer & Video Games. They to talk about Oz, an action game based on Frank L. Baum's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Oz is currently scheduled for a 2004 release.
  • Savage Glimpse: GameSpy looks at the upcoming multiplayer Action/RTS by S2 Games. Apparently Savage combines genres, bringing us an RTS and First Person Shooter that will support up to 64 players. In one particular quote the preview describes the game as resembling "the bastard child of Tribes and WarCraft III".
  • Purge Beta Testing: Phase 5: FPS/RPG hybrid. Unlimited seats are available so they will be accepting all users. If you'd like to participate in the beta then you must sign-up on the Purge Forums to automatically receive further instructions. Testers will be bound by NDA.

UT2003 Pro Patch - Jube
Avault eSports is reporting that Epic Games is preparing to release their Unreal Tournament 2003 Pro Patch. The patch is said to include a "pro interface" and demo recording abilities. Apparently we can expect to see this out within the next few days.

LG Site Updates - CaliGirl
The Search for Quake Women Legacy section has been updated with Gemstone and Atari. Community has been updated with a History of Female Gaming section. There's a lot of information to soak in there with Quake history so be prepared.

Tribe Estrogen, a clan dedicated to Tribes 1 & 2, has been updated in the Teams section. The clan hosts a community event called Gender Wars which is a type of boys vs. girls competition. Here's a clip from Jupe (not to get mixed up with our very own news queen, Jubilee) said about her clan:
