ABC in the Bay Area has mentioned news about how colleges have been recruiting female video game students. Here's an excerpt:

Kitt McCurdy, GameSpot: "I think that women want more options for themselves for gaming and for their families and for their kids, and they can really increase the diversity in those selections by being behind the scenes creating games that appeal to women, creating games that appeal to kids, creating games that appeal to families, just to diversify the market."

Penumbra: Overture Goes Gold

Got Game Entertainment has announced that Penumbra: Overture has gone gold. Penumbra: Overture is a first-person, suspense-adventure PC game that places you in the role of Philip, who, following the death of his mother, receives a letter from a dead man – his father. The letter insists he burn a particular book, but Philip studies it instead. Following clues in the book, he is led to Greenland. Caught in a deadly snow storm, he finds refuge – or so he thinks – in a strange metal hatch in the snow.

PlanetQuake has an interview with Splash Damage's Paul Wedgewood. The most important part is the question about them being at Quakecon this year. Here's their response:
Absolutely! We’ve attended the last seven QuakeCons, and they continue to be the highlight of our year. We’re hoping to bring even more Splash Damage staff this year. You can look forward to ETQW competitions, tournaments, mod-making presentations and round-tables – perhaps even a few matches against the id Software and Splash Damage teams.

Blizzard has announced that Blizzcon 2007 will be held in California from August 3rd and 4th. Sadly enough, I would have attended this event if I didn't already have plans to attend Quakecon this year.

Counter-Strike Tournament

According to mYm, the Electronic Sports World Cup has announced that they will hold a Female Counter-Strike tournament for the fifth time. The tournament will take place at the Expo Park in Paris during the ESWC Grand Final from the 5th July up to July 8th.

Lost Planet Mappack #2

Capcom recently sent word that there was a multiplayer mappack released for Lost Planet: Extreme Condition on the Xbox 360. It is currently available for download on Xbox Live Marketplace and costs 400 Microsoft Points. The two new multiplayer levels include; Hive Complex level has an abandoned mine with twisting tunnels and bridges set on a war-blasted mountain side, and the Trial Point level has a modern day office complex featuring a photorealistic backdrop of a busy city center.

Ubisoft has recently announced the acquisition of Sunflowers. Through the transaction, Ubisoft will acquire a 30 percent stake in Related Designs, which developed Anno 1701, the latest entry in the Anno series and is currently working on a future Anno title. [Further Details]

Sony wants a big piece of the girl gamer market so they have unleashed a pink version of the PSP. Offering colors and even ways to design a console is great for anyone to have variety but focusing on pink is not what really attracts girl to want to purchase a platform.
