Games are Good for You! - Sunday 7/17/2005 by GeekWoman
Research into the health effects on players, both positive and negative, is often trivialized. Some of this research deserves to be taken seriously. There have been reports on how people with arthritis find that clicking the controls on a Game Boy is therapeutic for the hands. Gamers report that playing violent games have a relaxing effect on stress and road rage after a long day. Other players enjoy the more soothing types of games that have pretty environments and atmosphere such as Ecco the Dolphin and Myst. One innovative application of video games in health care is their use in pain management. The degree of attention needed to play such a game can distract the player from the sensation of pain, a strategy that has been reported and evaluated among pediatric patients. The British Medical Journal has published an article about it.

Bumps but No Grinds - Sunday 7/17/2005 by GeekWoman
Games in the Dumps
Bad news real-time strategy fans, British publisher Codemasters have unceremoniously withdrawn their support for Russian-developed real-time strategy project Wartime Command, which is was being developed by 1C Company. A few creative differences, coupled with the inevitability of delays, appear to have been the death knell of Codemasters' interest.

"It's been a long and bumpy ride both developing and supporting this title. There have been some issues during the design and implementation of the ideas for the game that both 1C and Codemasters have wanted. Unfortunately delays to the launch were inevitable, and it is with great regret that Codemasters have decided not to proceed with this title."

"You may find that much has changed since you left the world of Camelot. We hope to make your return as simple as possible. Imperator Impossible
Mythic's IMPERATOR MMO was a futuristic, roman-themed game and it has been put on hold indefinitely. Supposedly so that the company can concentrate on DARK AGE OF CAMELOT and the re-creation of WARHAMMER ONLINE MMO. 'This was the most difficult decision that we have ever had to make,' said Mark Jacobs, CEO and president of Mythic Entertainment. 'However, our tremendous success with 'Dark Age of Camelot' set the standard for Mythic of releasing nothing less than triple-A games, and 'Imperator' was simply not meeting that standard.'

Battlefield 2 v1.01 Patch - Thursday 7/7/2005 by CaliGirl
Electronic Arts has released patch version 1.01 for Battlefield 2. It fixes Multiplayer Browser issues, and adds GameSpot GameCenter support. The Multiplayer Browser adds functionality and buttons to allow finding an open game easier. For those who'd like to play on ranked servers but can't find quality servers that aren't full, GameCenter offers the ability to start up ranked servers without paying the hefty monthly fee usually associated with private server hosting.

For those of you who haven't given BF2 a try, you're definitely missing out. It reminds me a bit of Enemy Territory, with a little Unreal Tournament (Onslaught) game. Very complex but OH so FUN!
