Advertising and Anarchy
Posted by Geek Woman

Perhaps when you sign up for a free game demo or a free free time increment on a MMORPG. Then you would see in-game advertising billboards. Recently Funcom signed an exclusive agreement with Massive Incorporated, creator of a video game advertising network. All free players of Anarchy Online will see dynamic in-game advertising billboards in central areas of the game. Payed subscribers will not see these ads.

The ad network is thought to be a new source of income beyond box sales and subscriptions from global advertisers. Next-gen gaming is expected to be even more massive in size. Larger storage mediums for game content are necessary. Sony confirmed Blu-ray for its next-gen Play-Station. Some next-generation games might be using the DVD9. No particular HD standard is set yet and manufacturers don't know which HD standard they're going with.

Next part is they want to include in game services. At the doorstep of virtual reality is the commercialism that will drive the technology forward. A marketplace for 'microtransactions', is needed for buying and downloading the tunes played in a game. This way consumers can get content, new game levels, maps, weapons, vehicles, skins and downloadable updates.
Micro-transactions are thought to be a technology that will break down barriers of small-ticket online commerce. The plan is that micro-transactions will supposedly allow developers and the gaming community to charge as little as they like for content they create and publish on a Marketplace.
If customers pay for playlists the feature would eliminate the need for developers to purchase custom music design in games. Players theoretically could listen to their own tracks while playing next-generation Xbox games. The next-generation of consumers is thought to be looking for full real time interactivity. Indeed some gamers welcome an "even more realistic" aspect to the games by including related commerce. What can make this all palatable is clever design. It has to be cohesive and believable. There is some talk about Gamer Cards. for key Xbox Live(tm) information. They would supposedly instantly connect players with people who have similar skills, interests and lifestyles..
