High School Hell

I don't know if it is a coincidence or if the developers are using the news this week about "zombie boy" to exploit their new survival horror game.
Earlier today a demo was made available of the soon to be released in the US title - Obscure.

In an unrelated story a kid from Kentucy named William Poole, 18, was taken into custody Tuesday morning. Investigators say they discovered materials for which Poole told local TV reporters "that the whole incident is a big misunderstanding." He claims that what his grandparents found in his journal and turned into police was a short story he wrote for English class. "My story is based on fiction," said Poole, who faces a second-degree felony terrorist threatening charge. "It's a fake story. I made it up. I've been working on one of my short stories, (and) the short story they found was about zombies. Yes, it did say a high school. It was about a high school over ran by zombies."

I can see how developers might rush to use the publicity about high school zombies as a buzz.

"Obscure tracks a group of five all-American high school students who discover the halls they walk each day are anything but safe from their most horrifying nightmares. A string of mysterious disappearances and unexplained events set the stage for a night more horrifying than any trip to detention…"

Players customize their action experience and can change between characters at any time. The students in the game each have unique skills and abilities. Unique to survival horror is that this game offers single player or a second player able to enter the game. Which is a great idea that has been a long time coming. Just as high school horrors have been a traditional date movie, this game might become a date game. Player 2 can take control of another student and work together to fight and resolve puzzles.

It sounds like a pretty good game. I am always interested in survival horror games. I hope it doesn't get banned in the US or something. I've lived through the controversy about Dungeons and Dragons and the book banning of Harry Potter. The persecution of a kid for being creative seems a bit ridiculous when the gaming and movie industries make literally billions of dollars each year off this genre.
