Ms. Quakecon -  Missy's Matches

Overview
I talked to Missy the first time without really introducing myself. I was in a hurry to find a another participant in the tournament that I had seen her previously talking to. She looked at me with a mean expression as if she didn't like me. I thought geez, you haven't ever been mean when I talked to you online before. I knew right then that she didn't know who I was but left it alone. Later that evening I was admin for the 2nd round of matches with Munchkin. This is when I finally got to know her. Come to find out, she was thinking who I was talking about and had no idea so it wasn't a mean expression after all. It was a look of.. what did that person look like again and where did she last see that her.

Missy was definitely one person I was happy to be a spectator for. I was there to watch her matches with Munchkin and Succubus. Her rounds with Succubus were the most suspenseful games I watched during Miss Quakecon.

To be quite honest, I have known many female gamers, and not one know the Railgun down that well. I have probably met one girl online that hung out in the Quake3world.com forums from time to time back in 2000. Even then most of us who played her were uncertain if it was a guy using a girl's name. I think Missy is the first female gamer I have known who plays with the RailGun accurately. Ms.X plays with Rail pretty good too, I'd run from that lady as well! :)

Missy vs. Munchkin
The two matches against her opponent Munchkin were on ospdm3 and dm6 levels. Missy used Major as her player model. She seemed a bit nervous the first few minutes playing Munchkin but after that she went for the killing. Munchkin did have some rockets flying in areas she heard when she heard Missy picking up certain items but would barely miss her by seconds. Missy served it up with 27 Frags while Munchkin had 2 frags for the first match. During match two, Missy won with 25 frags while Munchkin was able to get another 2 kills on her.

Succubus vs. Missy
Succubus normally played a lot with the lightning gun and a little Plasma with RailGun on the side while she played against Missy in all matches. At one point during the first match on pro-q3tourney2, I noticed that Missy killed Succubus with the Railgun. At this time Succubus started using the Rail a little bit right after. At one point Missy kept jumping around when she went under the secret area with the Railgun. By this time, she kept going back and forth, back and forth quite a few times. She reminded me of a Rabid Squirrel teasing it's prey, Succubus kept shooting at her from the layer above. It was just one of those things YOU have to see because it was full of suspense. I was very surprised that Missy took her chances by going back and forth, dodging those rockets.  In case you don't know. This secret area has two spots where you can fall off into the abyss. So if Missy barely missed a ledge hop, or happened to slightly be hit by a shot, she would have had another suicide.

The second match was played on Missy's choice of a map, ospdm3. For the first 8 minutes during the game, Missy was killing Succubus left and right with her Railgun, with an occasional lightning gun zaps. Succubus made an exciting come back and finished off with 10 frags.

The third match was the tie breaker so they both picked ztn3tourney1. This was a map Missy said she didn't care for. Succubus started off using the Rocket Launcher for the first minute or so, then went back to her all time favorite the Lightning gun.

During her matches with Succubus at least 15-20 people through various times had walked behind her and bumped the back of their head trying to get through such a tight area. There was a lot of suspense that was killing me and Kata Jade as we watched all three matches. We would both look at each other and sometimes cover our mouths from saying our ohh and ahhs. I kept biting my lip from saying things.  So by the time another set of 5-6 guys would come by I wanted to pop them all on the back of their heads for disturbing her in this tournament. A few times Kata requested some guys to go around... it was just so disturbing to see Missy have her head bumped when she was trying to aim to shoot her gun. She was a good sport though. I think if any guy had that happen he would have jumped out of his seat, threw his headphones on the ground and started a fist fight with whoever did that during a tournament they were in.

I knew that Succubus' whole area around her computer was blocked by many spectators. There was no way anyone could watch in her area, or walk through. It looked like she had a type of body guard crew of men surrounding her while she played Missy. For a match in the BYOC area, that is the smartest thingy a gamer could do.
