Quakecon 2003 Journey - Sunday

Fire Alarm, Banging Doors, Phone Calls
By 1:45am I finally doze off to sleep. I only had about 4 hours of sleep the Friday night with a 45 min nap on Saturday afternoon. In case you haven't noticed, I love sleep so if I don't get my 6 hours of sleep, I can get pretty moody. By 2:15am someone was knocking on the door for a while. I wasn't about to get up, and doze off minutes after whoever left. By 2:25am someone called our phone 2 different times. I fell back asleep and by 2:58am the fire alarm went off. I actually was so freaken tired I thought it was the hotel room door bell. Jube was in the next bed over saying "what's that...." in a tired voice. I said, "Don't worry about it, they'll go away." She said. "That sounds like a fire alarm."  I got up to yell at the person who was ring our so called door bell but noticed a red flicker on the bottom door area.

Even though I was just in my xtra large Qcon t-shirt that hung down like a dress, I stood outside the door and looked down both ways looking for people. I heard people run to the stairs before I opened the door. Just then a guy stuck out his head out of his room. I asked, "Was that a real fire alarm?"  He replied, "It's a false alarm."   I didn't know if I could trust him right off, so I said, "How do YOU know?"  He said he called the front desk.  Since I was half awake, I told him something stupid, and Jube won't let me live up to it now. I said, " OH! okay. I thought someone was ringing our door bell so I was going to tell them to go away."  Jube kept kicking me around Sunday morning about this. With her comments of, "HaHa, telling some guy she thought the door bell was ringing, hotel rooms don't have doorbells Cali!"   *bleh!*

Terrible Tournament Nightmares
By the third time being woken up, I was too tired to sleep anymore. I had enough of disturbance and desired to get up at 7ish/8am to not only start packing but try to find L4mby to see what time and where the winner of Ms. Quakecon pics would be taken. I was in that mode of being so sleep deprived, why should I even sleep now. During the time between 2ish am to about 3am I had some really funky dreams. They were all about the a Quake 3 tournament, and I was admin for various people.. but once we got to Missy (one of the participants in Ms.Qcon), it would repeat over and over. She would be playing and doing certain things on the map, then a server would time out, and she'd pause... then it would duplicate what she did the last time all over again. She'd do the same exact thing as the first time she had played. This went over and over again in my dream once it hit Missy.  That was enough to drive me crazy and by then someone knocked on my the door and woke me up of such weirdness. Of course I went back into the dream with it going back to me being an admin and this time it was some guy I was his spectator, he did the same thing as what happened to Missy only I don't know who this person is. He actually looked a bit like CC-Nate from the back of his head. Very odd dream.

Seeing A Few People Before I Left
Around 8:30 am Jube and I had breakfast at the bagel shop. We cruised by the BYOC area to see what it looked like around 9am. It looked as if there were about 15% computers gone by then. The time to remove your computer was between 7am to noon so some people got a head start on it all.

Jube and I decided to hog what we called the special people couches. During the event if anyone sat on those couches they'd look at you like you were a peon. Had the expression on their faces like wouldn't you like to be sitting here! It overlooked down the hallway, and the escalator so many people walked by. We thought we would stay still for once to say bye to anyone we knew.

There was a guy that looked very familiar. I had a hunch it was Yossman, who has the site called Quakeconpics.com. I asked him what his nick name was and he showed me his badge. It was him! I spoke with him and Redwood for a bit about the event and how Ms.Quakecon went. I also mentioned how much I have enjoyed his qcon pics site. I went through various years of pics before I went to Quakecon this year to prepare myself for any faces that were common through out the years just in case I met them.

Jube and I also bumped into Hellchick as we lingered around to chat before her Shuttle came to take her to the airport. LABTUD came up during this time to show us girls about the pool party that was last night. He also showed us a handful of pictures on his digital camera.

As I caught up with Ms.X and Missy for a few minutes, I met a Packet Kid for the first time, his name was Vex. :D

I also had a chance to briefly talk to Succubus while she stood against the glass in the hallway that led to both sides of the hotel. Then on the way out the hotel door Knower popped out of the blue! I haven't seen him in about 2 years. He looked the same of course, but charming as ever.

Apology to... ?
If at any time between Friday - Sunday (I knew I was fine Thursday) I looked as if I was tired and you saw me walking down the halls.. and said wow she looks grouchy or I didn't say hi to you and you knew me. Please forgive me. I was low on fuel from not eating at my normal times or not eating at all, had very few hours of sleep.. and walked around like a monkey on stilts as admin for the Ms. Quakecon by hunting for female gamers that were supposed to be next matches Friday and Saturday. It was not at all my intention to offend anyone I promise. If you would like to talk to me personally, hop into #ladygamers on ETG to let me know what I did.

The only reason I bring this up is because a few people at the event asked if I was sad or they said didn't want to introduce themselves to me because I looked at them then looked away. I REALLY didn't see you if I did that. I was skimming faces to find girls that were supposed to be in the tournament matches. If you walked up and talked to me (which a few of you did!), asked what was up rather that left me alone, I would have been my normal chipper self.. even if I did feel like the life was drained out of me. :)

Final Thoughts
Next year I am getting every room # of people I need to contact to know what's going on. If needed, I am also going to bug for cell phones. It was so scattered through out the event, but I got by and just went with the consequences. However, the worst part of all is when I didn't get Lamby's room # she was staying in. Since this happened, I was unable to take any pictures of the Ms. Quakecon finalists holding their prizes.

Another thing, I came to this event to get coverage here at LadyGamers, not for you girls to BRAINWASH me in making me crave to play Quake III Arena again. I am an Enemy Territory gamer right now for Pete's sake. I live and breath that game, I don't go to sleep at night until early morning.

During the event when I was watching those matches I constantly had this thing where I would have went this way, or I would have shot at this time. or would have strafed or jumped over that lightning gun zap or I would have jumped on the pad in mid air and shoot of my rocket jumps over and over again to get the girl dizzy. heheh. These girls really had me itching to play the game again, I realized how much I missed the old Q3 days of playing the game exclusively. I still have it installed on my computer so I think I need to check into playing one some mods for it.

Overall, through out the event I noticed something important that I have never noticed at any E3 Events I have attended in the past. Majority people were very friendly when they knew who you were, but if they didn't know this, you would have 'occasional instances' where you were treated wrongly. I just have always been the type of person where even if I don't know who someone is I would still be nice to them. If not a full smile it was a grin. I am not in any way saying I am a better person at all by saying this. It's just how I was brought up. You treat everyone equally, because you never who you may run into that is a very important person (V.I.P.).
