[LadyGamers]: To get to know the
owner of the site more, can you give us a little background on
what brought you to online gaming? But most of all, what
grabbed you when you first discovered DeltaForce? Is there
anything that stands out about the game?
[SugarChick]: I got into online gaming in
April of 2001 after months of watching an ex-boyfriend play Delta Force.
When I began playing, I started with the newest release of the Delta Force
series, which at the time was Landwarrior. Before I began playing myself,
I would watch my ex play and wonder how he could play for hours on end and
not get bored. So I began playing myself and the tables quickly turned
from me bugging him to get off the computer, to the other way around.
I have tried many other games in the past, CS, GR, OFP
but I always came back to Delta Force. The spacious landscapes in Delta
Force really set it apart from many other games that are strictly close
quarters. It allows not only for close quarter combat, but for sniping and
other forms of long range gunning as well. Although CQB can be fun, there
is definitely skill involved in being able to accurately shoot and kill
someone with from 500-1000m off.
Also, the Delta Force series is based on a special
forces unit of the US Army, which specialize in counter-terrorism, so it
brings a certain realism to the game. Task Force Dagger (the 4th
installment of the DF series) is based on Operation Enduring Freedom and
Black Hawk Down (the 5th installment of the DF series) portrays the raid
on Mogadishu.
[LadyGamers]: There's a big conspiracy going on about
sites that have chicks, girls, women, female or ladies in it. Many people
believe these sites can only mean it's dedicated to women only, and girls
can only help run the sites. This isn't the case for LadyGamers.com, and
it's definitely not the case for DFChicks.com. DFChicks.com allows both
male and female gamers participate in the community and events. Have you
ever had any criticism from gamers saying your site is misleading or
anything else in that nature?
[SugarChick]: When DFChicks was first established there
were complaints that I was pulling a stunt in order to attract traffic to
our site. Right from the beginning I made it known that as long as one
person found our site useful that I would be happy and have stuck to that
principal ever since. I can honestly say that I have absolutely no idea
how many hits, posts or new members we get a month. Although all of that
information is available, it is not something that I care to rate the
quality of my site on. I will always believe in quality not quantity. The
complaints quickly diminished and people learned and accepted the validity
of DFChicks as a resourceful site, not as a means to get traffic.
When I created Delta Force Chicks I had the sole intent, and still do,
to bring attention to the fact that women do indeed play Delta Force. What
I did not want to have was a site exclusively for females that in the
process excluded males. As females, we want to be treated as fairly as
males are in game play, so by creating a site that did not allow a male
presence as well, would defeat my purpose of encouraging "equality amongst
gamers". So we welcome and encourage members and staff that are both male
and female.
[LadyGamers]: There are two different features at
DFChicks.com that draws DeltaForce gamers from every corner of the net!
The Weekly Signature of the Week and Music of the Week contests give
gamers a chance to have their creativity displayed on the site. Can you
fill is in on the rules for these contests and how you came up with the
idea?
[SugarChick]: Signature of the Week(SOTW) & Music of the
Week(MOTW) were not ideas created from scratch, they are frequently found
on other Delta Force sites, but we did modify the original idea and put
our own twist on it. We allow our members to suggest themes for SOTW &
MOTW, then our heads of staff decide on which theme will be used each
week. This encourages our members to use their creativity by creating and
submitting a new signature each week according to the selected theme.
[LadyGamers]: It's exciting to see an ever growing
picture and bios gallery of Delta Force Gamers at your site. There's a
section called Women of Delta Force, which has mini interviews of various
gamers listed in the gallery. Does DFChicks plan on releasing any other
articles like this in the near future?
[SugarChick]: Our site is constantly expanding and we are
always looking for new ways to fulfill the communities interests. Our
Women of Delta Force section has proven to be a successful way for the
community to learn more about our female community members. We will
definitely be providing similar articles and features in the future.
[LadyGamers]: Assuming you have already seen the Black
Hawk Down movie, does the game really have a resemblance to the film? If
so, can you explain what you have noticed about it?
[SugarChick]: I actually have Black Hawk
Down on DVD but the last time I watched it was a few months back. What I
remember from it, besides being a terrific film in itself, was that it was
very realistic to the stories and images from BlackHawkDown.com. At this
site you can read a series that the Philadelphia Inquirer did on the
events that occurred including actual photos, video footage, and audio.
One of the most interesting aspects I found was the
pentagon video of the raid which is portrayed almost identically in the
movie itself. For people that are not familiar with Black Hawk Down, both
the movie and the game portray an actual event that occurred in 1993 in
which Delta Force participated in. When the game Black Hawk Down was
released I immediately noticed the similarities between the movie and
actual stories/videos from BlackHawkDown.com. The scenery, buildings,
landscape, and weapons are true to form. Also, the music in the game
greatly resembles what you hear throughout the movie.
