[LadyGamers]: What is your history with The Damned? Were you one
of the first members? How did you find out about the clan?
[Climax]: I was looking for an AOL sex chat room and I got lost.
Well, Annie, the Leader of The Damned, and I started the clan.
Havoc
was the first member. We were all in another Quake clan
together but had
a lot of disagreements with the leaders. Annie wanted leave.
Me too. We
wanted to be in a clan that had an outward focus, made friends
and took
advantage of all the cool things in the Quake community. So,
we made
our own clan. Now we have eight members and we’re growing. We
always have
a good time, too. Best move we ever made.
[LadyGamers]: If you had a choice to add three games that
currently exist (created by any developer) into one
game, what games would it be, and why?
[Climax]: Wow. I never thought of such a possibility.
Hmm. This is hard. I would want Quake 3 Arena, Doom III and The Sims
Online all put together. Quake 3 for the action, Doom for long-term goals
and a story, and the Sims to complete the virtual world by providing a lot
of social interaction. If I could have those three games fused into one
diabolical amalgam, and DSL, then I’d apply for Disability Insurance, get
me a Bowflex and some sun lamps and basically never leave my house, just
play all day. I’d sell Quads and Mega Healths on eBay so I could buy new
underwear and pizza every now and then. Come on, CaliGirl, we could get
married, live in a purple castle and blow up stuff together.
[LadyGamers]: Name your top 5 gamers of all time, with a brief description on why these people stand out to you.
[Climax]: I play Quake CTF because it makes more sense
than real life. Ok,
I’m really winging this…
(1) M2-Featly: Feats started out in gaming playing UT1. He
helped
co-found a clan called the Sadistic Legion of Unreal
Tournament (SLUT) 2001
and he pretty much single-handedly recruited and coached a raw
nucleus
of players into one of the most deadly UT1 TDM teams in North
America.
Stats don’t lie. SLUT disbanded last year. He’s playing for
Mulletmen
these days.
(2) Pure|TwoTime: Two was another big gun in SLUT. The thing
about him
that impressed those unlucky enough to meet him in battle was
that for
most of his career he played on a 56k dial up connection yet
owned
broadband players at will. Two was the master of anticipation
and cunning
and could play 10 hours straight with only an occasional bong
break. A
real tribute to the spirit of pc gamers. He’s with clan Pure
today,
still playing UT all night. Rock on, Two!
(3) Kornelia: I’ve gotten into Quake 3, Quake 2 and Quake in a
backwards progression. I don’t know much about Kornelia’s
current activities in
Quake, but this she really stands out each step of the way.
She has to
be one of the best gamers in the world based on skills, right
up there
with Fatality, Trillian and Supergirl. I’m inspired by her
partly
because she is a woman. To have risen up against the odds in a
male-dominated sport and kicked ass so consistently, she’s a
real winner.
(4) Pappy-R: He runs PlanetQuake. He can’t write about Quake
without
making you laugh. But while you’re laughing he’s also telling
you stuff
you need to know regarding what’s going on in the Quake world.
The hand
of Pappy-R is behind many good things in Quake. The example he
sets
with PlanetQuake inspires other to do their own projects
better. Pappy’s
not a kid, he’s got a lot more gray hair than me, but as time
marches on
I can only hope I’ll feel as young and totally connected to
gaming as
he is.
(5) |D|PlayNaked: Aka, Annie, Leader of The Damned. I can
never be as
good looking as her (I’m a guy, btw) but with practice maybe I
can be as
cool. Here’s a person who never gets pissed off, and never
frazzles
when thepressure is on during a match or in building our
clan. I tend to
get swept up into the chaos that breaks loose. Fortunately,
Annie is
there reeling me back in. She inspires me to be a better human
being.
[LadyGamers]: You're basically the Public Relations guy for
The Damned clan on activities or articles that are
released. I've seen your name everywhere on the net, especially in various gaming forums. What do you
admire most about the gaming community?
[Climax]: Public Relations guy, heh, I like that. That is going on the
resume.
As much as I like playing Quake and other pc games, it’s the
social
interaction that I thrive on. The focus on the game
intensifies it,
enriches it. I’ve been chatting on BBS’s and IRC since 1997.
Every time I go
online I feel anticipation because you never know who or what
you’ll
encounter. The gaming community is diverse; gamers come from
every layer
of society and every country. I thrive on that, too. You can’t
get
bored out there. I can’t seem to get enough, that’s my only
problem.
[LadyGamers]: How did you come up with your nick name?
[Climax]: Every time I capture the flag something happens.
Actually, Annie suggested it on the second day I met her. She
didn’t
think that Max had enough, umm, energy.
