SABBATH CAT
John aka Sabbath Cat has a variety
of talents, and doesn't seem to stick to just one project at at time.
-beta, CaliGirl and Jube ask him some daring questions about his love
life, his gaming background when it comes to creating maps, singing and
much more. He has always been a very sweet guy, and would take a bullet
for you in a game of Unreal Tournament 2004 if he is on your Onslaught
team. He is very comical in
many ways, and will swoon you with his adorable British accent. See for
yourself! We provided a .wav of his voice below.
__________________________________________________________HIS GAME LIFE [CaliGirl]: What brought you to the Unreal Tournament world? Before you were involved in the UT series, what games did you play? Were any of them multiplayer or single player, and what platforms did you use? [SabbathCat]:
I found the Totally Unreal
pack in the bargain big around 1999. It was the double box set that Infrogrames published of UT GOTYE and Unreal + Return to Na Pali.
This was when I
bought my first PC (a PIII, 192meg Ram, NVidia TNT 2 20 gig HD).
Having always been into customising stuff from an early age and having
recently got up and running on 56k, there were plenty of places to both
share knowledge and show off the latest maps, skins, voicepacks and
models. _____________________________________________________LIFE AS A MAPPER [CaliGirl]: If you're working a full time job, a cartoonist for fun, playing UT2k4, singing with your guitar, and trying to map all in one week, how are you able to juggle all of these things? We already know you're passionate about all of them, so what is 'the' most important thing you do when you get home from work? Besides making a cup of espresso... [SabbathCat]: These days I'm suffering from very little free time due to work commitments, but I try cram as much I can into my evenings. It mostly based on what's more fun and what has the closest deadline - if I'm working towards a definite date, that takes priority. At the moment I'm mostly concentrating on the music side of things. [CaliGirl]: In our February 2005 Focus of the Month, King Mango mentioned in his words you were, "inspirational because he has one of the most identifiable styles in mapping." How does this make you feel, you're obviously not a copy cat (no pun intended) since you make you're own style of maps. [SabbathCat]: I never realised I had a style. My usual workflow used to go something like.. have an idea, sit in UnrealEd for 5 hours until it's 90% finished, procrastinate a lot, maybe release a beta, take a load of shortcuts and bash out a final as quick as possible. If I have a style it probably comes from amassing a lot of quick tricks, shortcuts and cheats to enable me to get something finished before I lose interest or get distracted by something else. Also a love of intense, sometimes cartoon like colour is used. [CaliGirl]: Most people have someone they admire when it comes to being a mapper. Who do you admire in the map development field? [SabbathCat]: I love Clawfists UT stuff, the maps had that ultimate balance of aesthetics and gameplay. Very clean, elegant maps, no extraneous detail. His work has that ideal level of complexity to sell a theme and give it realism. _______________________________________________________OTHER HOBBIES
[SabbathCat]: I have the attention span of a goldfish. I get bored with stuff easy so I tend to have about 5 or 6 things on the go at once, at any one time I can be drawing a strip, playing around on guitar, hanging in IRC, building something in Ued (UT2004 map editor), watching TV and eating dinner.
[SabbathCat]: About 70% true, except for the spaceship and stuff, and the musical soundtrack [newgrounds] [CaliGirl]: There's a photo listed below in your photo gallery with you singing, and playing a guitar. What type of music do you play, and what are your favorite bands? [SabbathCat]: I do a mixture of music, I have several projects on the go, the one that sees the most gigs is the folky stuff. Just simple acoustic stuff. I also play around with techno, electronica, full on Black Metal (think Lord Belial, Satyricon) and general ballzy rock (think Black Sabbath).
________________________________________________________HIS
LOVE LIFE [CaliGirl]: What does it take for a girl to impress you? Do they have to be athletic, pretty, smart or do something to get your attention? [SabbathCat]: I guess smart, independent, looks are a bonus but I value the mind most. :) [-beta]: What is the most favorite place you would love to take a girl to? [SabbathCat]: A deserted tropical island, but with an inexplicable T1 connection and the latest AlienWare system, freshly installed with the most recent version of UT200x - and hot water, air conditioning and regular shipments of Cadbury's chocolate. [CaliGirl]: How often do you talk to American girls where they can hear your adorable British accent? Do you have them all swoon for you at any given moment? [Listen to Sabbath Cat] [SabbathCat]: LOL! I'm thinking I should do it more often than I have been! [Jube]: Have you ever had a girl ask you out, and if so, did you like that or do you prefer to be the aggressor? [SabbathCat]: Either way is good for me. [Jube]: Would you consider yourself a romantic? What's the most romantic thing you've ever done for a love interest? [SabbathCat]: I try, though probably the traditional stuff, flowers, going for for French food, stuff like that. [Jube]: Would you say you're the serious relationship type or more of the swinging bachelor type? [SabbathCat]: I've had a couple of serious ones, but now I'm back to swinging, or at least have the intention to swing. [-beta]: If you had a dream date, what would it be like? [SabbathCat]: Dinner on the orient express, that'd be pretty cool. [CaliGirl]: What is the biggest difference you notice in American women compared to British? Not to say one is better than the other, but do you notice any differences in the way they are? or do you feel women are just women... 'nuff said? [SabbathCat]: The accent is bonus, but as long as they don't care that I'm not rich, don't have a fancy car, nationality isn't an issue.
[SabbathCat]: Oh, I could give up anything for the right woman, for all the hobbies, gaming, everything, at the end of the day nothing is more important than real people. It's a mistake I've made in the past of not allowing enough time for people in my life, and wouldn't do the same again. As long as I could get an hour or two's quality UT time a week, that'd be enough for a fix. :D [Jube]: It was once said that there are something like 3 million more single men in the UK than there are women. Do you think you're at a dating disadvantage living in England? And if so, have you ever considered moving to Canada to become the love slave of a gamer woman? [SabbathCat]: Yes [CaliGirl]: Sabby shows his love for LadyGamers in this mini video clip. _________________________________________________________________WHAT IF [CaliGirl]: What if you were given your dream car for free, a Pontiac Trans-A in your favorite color. The catch? You would have to pretend to be a girl for one day (24 hours). That's right Sabb! You'd need to shave your legs, get a wax facial, wear PINK, wear a wig, and put on that seski make-up. Would you do it? [SabbathCat]: For a free car? For a Day? No thought needed, of course. :) __________________________________________________________________MORE Picture Gallery: Chat:
