[LadyGamers]: First off, can you
give us a little background on how you got involved with
Online Gaming? Was there a special game that brought you? Or
did a friend get you online to chat, then you gradually
started playing multiplayer games?
[SodFather]: I cannot recall how exactly I started
playing PC games on-line. None of my friends fools around with computers
like I do, so it wasn't due to their influence. I guess I just started
playing PC games like SimCity
and Rollercoaster Tycoon, which then led to checking up on gaming sites,
which then led to realizing how cool multiplayer games such as Vietcong
could be. Let's not forget the age of broadband also--that jump from
dial-up to a 3000kbps cable connection in a matter of minutes can make
you wander into crazy reams like on-line gaming.
[LadyGamers]: What caused you to make a
fansite for Joan of Arc and not some other game like Vietcong?
Was there something about the game that stood out?
[SodFather]: Well, honestly, I had made a site about
Vietcong prior to Joan of Arc Fanatics Center. It was the first site I'd
ever made, and after seeing
how many loyal visitors I could attract (as I was the first fansite up and
running for Vietcong as well) with a gaming site, I decided to continue
with another gaming site after I took my Vietcong one down. The thought of
serving so many people of a game's community struck me as amazing and
exciting.
Joan of Arc caught my attention basically because it looked like a
winner from the start: smooth graphics, an established developer--it just
seemed right to start up an early fansite. No one wants to start a site on
a game which is sure to bomb; therefore, in order to both pick a good
topic game and get into the fansite scene before any potential
competitors, I needed a game such as JoA which showed almost definite
promise.
[LadyGamers]:
There are many types
of looks you'll find in history with how certain people felt
Joan of Arc looked. What sets this character apart from the
rest? Although the character in the game is very pretty,
doesn't it she seem has more make-up than what you have seen
in the movies?
[SodFather]: Yeah, the developers did indeed get carried
away with Joan's outward appearance (Being a nerdy PC game producer can
result in stuff like that). The only negative aspect of the game, in my
opinion, is the historical inaccuracy. I'm not a real Joan history buff,
but we all can take a safe bet that she didn't look like a stripper from
Scores. Also, she was not an actual combatant in battles if I recall
correctly (Perhaps I'm wrong.). Little stuff like that bugs me. But, hey,
this is big business, and you gotta do what you gotta do to get those JoA
copies off the shelves, even if it means exciting a little twelve-year-old
boy at the sight of Joan.
[LadyGamers]: You're an old time
fan of Prince of Persia. Have you tried Sands of Time? Beyond
Good and Evil was made off the same engine as Prince of
Persia: Sands of Time, have you checked out this game yet?
[SodFather]: Actually, the Sands of Time was what I was
referring to when I said Prince of Persia was one of my favorite games. I
am aware that there are previous versions, but I've never played them. But
the Sands of Time is
an excellent game; it reminds me of the good old pre-cellshaded era Zelda
games. How I hate that new cartoonish look!
As for Beyond Good and Evil, I have not looked into that game. If it's
engine is of the Prince of Persia lineage, it will probably be a good game
[LadyGamers]: With the Super Bowl
being this weekend, is there something special you'll be doing
this year? Tell us your favorite foods for this special annual
occasion.
[SodFather]: Ah, the Super Bowl. Sadly, I am a huge
Eages fan, and as almost anyone knows, they just choked for the third time
in three years in
their attempt to make it to the big show. Therefore, it will feel like
it's raining on me as I watch the Panthers take on the Patriots on Sunday
rather than Philly.
You probably won't see any M80's going off at my house this Sunday due
to the aforementioned reason, but what you might see is me watching the
game with some buds with a mouth covered in hot wing sauce. Wings,
fries, and a few fat two-liters of Coke is all we need.
