_____________________________________________________________INTERVIEW
[LadyGamers]: How did you first get involved with online
gaming?
[Brenda EM]: It was originally with
Quake 2 and Loki's Minions Capture the Flag. I can remember when Quake 1
was new, and OpenGL acceleration was an astounding addition to a game. :)

[LadyGamers]: Please explain what Brenda’s Game site is about,
what caused you to launch it. Have you worked on other websites before you
created your own? Do you still work with them?
[Brenda EM]: It's
just a page for my levels and things. When I finished Nike for Quake 2, I
wanted someplace to show it. My PQ site was my first. I have another site,
too. I was also a dot-com'er at one time.

[LadyGamers]: How long did it take for you to learn how to create
maps? Was there a lot of trial and error or did it come naturally?
[Brenda EM]: Initially,
it seemed overwhelming to me. The first few months were hard, because I
had to learn game engine itself and what the entities do.
While most 3D programs mostly do the same thing, they usually do that same
thing differently. I think that overall the user interfaces on 3D software
are still poor. I think, if a 2D program like Adobe Photoshop was
organized like a 3D program, it would never succeed commercially.
There are a lot of people editing photos, mixing their own CD's, and even
DVD movies. I think that more people would do 3D editing if the interfaces
were better. On some programs, the grid lines don't meet or things get
lost under it. In other programs, the user still has to type commands
because their interfaces don't seem finished. Neither of the two programs
I am thinking of, ever had interior modeling in mind when they were
created.
Even a program like GTK Radiant may be difficult to learn, though...
because, it was meant to be used for interior modeling, it is very fast.
It's main shortcoming is creating and rotating walls and things on odd
angles (non-axial geometry).
There is a lot of trial and error, but for me that is part of the fun. I
am still learning.

[LadyGamers]: Have you checked out the Unreal Tournament 2004
demo or are you a dedicated fan of Quake and Halflife engines?
[Brenda EM]: I have played some of
the Unreal Tournaments whenever I happen by them. I think they are quite
good, but I do prefer the Id family games and Half-Life, since it's
really separate now. Since it's really
separate now. I like single player and most of all cooperative game play.
I think that having a single-player game to base the multi player one adds
to the experience. I am weary of being in levels which aren't abstract
enough to be art, or realistic enough to be real. The story and the mythos
seems to make a difference to me. I really enjoyed the Thief Series, and I
was saddened when the Looking Glass broke. There is rumored to be a new
version using the Unreal Engine.

[LadyGamers]: Would you say you are more yourself online or in
person? Have you ever met a friend who you previously met online and
noticed they aren’t they same in person?
[Brenda EM]:
I am more of "in person" person. I surf quite a bit, and I just added my
2,000 Internet shortcut. To answer your second question, I have had
something worse happen. I have had a "friend" create an online persona for
the purpose of stalking me. It wasn't only me who was upset and hurt, but
at least seven other people. I, myself have been quite candid about my
online presence. Seven thousand people from Bluesnews saw this: [link]

[LadyGamers]: Since you’re a fan of Johnny Depp, name the top
3 movies he was in that you enjoy the most.
[Brenda EM]: I liked him in Chocolat
and Edward Sissorhands. I also saw him in Sleepy Hollow. I liked him in
The Ninth Gate, but then I learned who directed it.
