XtremePrejudice
We talk to one of the founders of the Xtreme Prejudice clan, David 'Cromwell' Haupt. Dave is known for his sense of humor in the clan. I simply can't go to a theme park anymore if I don't have him in my presence. He really can past the time with his little jokes and stories he says while standing in those long lines, waiting to finally jump on a rollercoaster ride. - CaliGirl

[LadyGamers]:  Xtreme Prejudice (XP) has been around for over 6 years now. What do you feel has kept this clan thriving for so long?

[David Haupt]: There are so many reasons. One notable reason is we are not a one game clan and for that reason we consider ourselves a gaming organization. Xtreme Prejudice can be involved in multiple games and still keep its identity intact. We do not have members primarily based on their skill at a particular game but rather on their character. There is a simple hierarchy in our organization that some may have considered a power trip for my self and XP-Kiljoy but that simply is not the truth. Our structure basically works like this; the magistrates (XP-Kiljoy, XP-Cromwell) have the last word, and we finalize all clan code.

Co-Magistrate, are our right hands and administer that code. Co-Mags also have the ability to add and remove members and even make policy changes with the understanding that anything deemed unacceptable will be over turned or revised by the Magistrates. Then we have the squad leaders which are the guys/gals running the small groups of players participating in a particular event or game.

Last but not least we have the guys/gals in the trenches, our grunts or the Executioners of Xtreme Prejudice. So basically structure in my opinion has kept us together. We are also based on friendship without a doubt but friends can fight and have disagreements but having an organization with soon to be 60 members there must be structure and leadership. We do not vote, but ask our members to be involved in a particular discussion. XP-Kiljoy and I have taken this responsibility and have made it an important part of our life.

[LadyGamers]: The XP clan has a get together every single year around Fall. This isn't a LAN type of gathering. It's more so a type of family reunion to me. How did you 'both' come up with this idea?

[David Haupt]: Well, if I remember correctly XP-JamminJim came up with the basic idea of a yearly get together and I believe even came up with the name XPCon. From there it’s become a small yearly bleeding hole in my stomach. We take this very seriously and try to make it more than just a get together but an event. This is the first year we had the Friday dinner/party on Saturday to allow people to get to the house more without having to worry about work or traffic.

We have talked many times regarding reserving a day for a LAN during XPCon. Every time XP-Kiljoy and discussed this we quickly come to the conclusion that this would be a mistake. The whole purpose of XPCon is to get us out of that chair and shake the hand of a fellow XP or online friend. We are looking into trying an official XP LAN event sometime this winter.

[LadyGamers]:  There have been many changes through out the years for the gaming community. What do you miss the most about the Quake 1 days?

[David Haupt]: This is a question I have been asked many times and something I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of answering. I really miss the size of the online community! At that time it almost felt like everyone knew everyone one else at a more personal level. That may not have been the reality but it still felt that much more exclusive.

I remember the yells across the room that a particular player was on a server and then we would all race to get our revenge from last nights skirmish. I also miss the excitement of some of the first big gaming events such as the Red Annihilation tournament or the Elite 8.

This is not to say the quake days didn’t have their problems. I don’t miss the one on one fascination which thankfully seems to have lost its popularity. I also don’t miss the feeling I had when the first cheat came out and forever change the way I perceived an unbelievably talented Quake player. I’m more likely to give someone the benefit of the doubt but I’m sure you all understand what I mean.

In short I miss the feeling of being there from the beginning. It’s something considering the scale of the gaming community today that only handful of people truly can relate to.

[LadyGamers]:  Is there any previous clanmates that you wish could/would rejoin the clan?

[David Haupt]: I miss XP-Little Dragon, XP-Unholy, XP-Twisted Killer, XP-DarkViper, XP-Juggernaut, and XP-Avatar. There are many others but I felt these individuals follow your last question in regards to what I missed most of the Quake 1 days.

[LadyGamers]: With WinXP being Microsoft's hot new software, have you been asked if you made the clan called XP because of this?

[David Haupt]: Haha … yes, I have been asked that. The obvious answer is No! However, it is irritating when people call us posers or something along those lines because they think we believe our computers operating system is so cool we named our clan it. Once we reply back with “XP stands for Xtreme Prejudice” we've had some people respond with … “"oh are you racist. Morons!!!”
