Killers 4 Hire Clan Interview - DigitalPimp & Holocaust Conducted by -beta ________________________________________________________________PROFILE
_____________________________________________________________INTERVIEW [DigitalPimp]: K4H is about 4 years old and was formed as a Quake 2 clan back in the day and eventually made its way to Quake 3 and Counter Strike. As for famous members I know that we have one member who lives in California and is working on becoming an actor. I guess that would be as famous as we get. For beloved members I guess one would be Homocrust, I mean Holocaust when he is around. Lately the clan hasn't been as active as it should be but I will take care of this with in the next coupleof months because we have to get ready for HL2 and Doom 3. [Holocaust]: Well, I would have to say K4H is definitely one of the oldest clans out there today in the gaming world. We started up approximately 5 years ago, August 5, 1998. It started because I was in a Quake 2 clan at the time called EDF that clan decided to disband. I wanted to have a clan that my friends from high school and I could all be in together and play Quake2. So, basically, I called up a few people from my school that I knew played games such as Quake 1 and asked them if they wanted to form a clan together, which is how we started out with our original members. I knew quite a few people from the Quake 2 scene at that time and asked a few if they wanted to join K4H. Shortly thereafter we grew quite quickly because everyone started recruiting members, and we have just grown from there. Some of the original members that I would personally like to thank are Sparticus, Xenocide, DoorKnob, KaeBaek, Zack, DP and pretty much the original Q2 guys of whom I still talk, because without them I doubt I would have had the willpower, dedication, or patience to stick with it and help keep this clan alive for this long! So, based on this friendship that we started with, that's how K4H is handled to this day. We are a bunch of friends whether completely in real life or not, and we just like to have fun and “own” as many people as we possibly can. Throughout the years we have taken on people that weren’t quite as good as the rest of the people but through practice or just pubs and messing around we've brought those people up to our level of playing. ```````````````````````````````````````` [LadyGamers]: Do you think RA3 should be an official tourney at QuakeCon? What makes it qualified to deserve that kind of attention? Will you be attending Quakecon 2004 even if RA3 doesn't make it into the events schedule next year? Would you compete in another mod in 2004 if that happens? [DigitalPimp]: I believe RA3 should be an official tourney at QuakeCon due to the fact that we have the largest number of teams attending. I am definitely going to try to get out there for Qcon 2004 as long as my work and school schedule will permit it. About competing in another mod in 2004---not really sure. I guess we'll have to see. [Holocaust]: Most definitely RA3 should be an official tournament at Quakecon. For the past 3 years we have had an amazing turnout of RA3 teams and it compares to Wolfenstein or the Q3 DM tournys that have been played. For example, I believe this year we had over 40 teams assembled in a full single elimination tournament, with barely any notice. To me RA3 is a an equal level playing field kind of mod because everyone starts off with the same amount of health, armor and weapons; instead of you having a machine gun and no armor and the other guy having every weapon and all the armor. I seriously don’t think RA3 is much of a newbie mod. My clan, K4H, played cK a few years back at Quakecon in the RA3 side tourney that was held. We definitely held our own and gave cK quite the run for their money. I don’t think any “newb” clan could possibly have done that. And as a side note, we really don’t practice that much other than hitting pub servers together, whereas cK plays in scrims and has practices regularly as I have come to understand. I have attended the Quakecon events since 1999, the first year I knew they existed, and I intend to keep on going to the events, more than likely even after I stop playing games because I have the time and a having a family is a ways off. I just love the atmosphere and getting to meet and see all the people that I have come to know over the years. We always have a blast and it seems like we have all been friends in real life for a very extended amount of time. I would compete in other mods or games depending on whether I liked the game and had been playing it for a while. I don’t like to lose, so entering into a competition with no practice just isn’t that fun to me. Therefore, if something catches my eye and I like playing the game or mod I would definitely enter into that competition. ```````````````````````````````````````` [LadyGamers]: How has your clan been preparing for upcoming CAL matches? Do you have a set schedule of practices or just get on when you see others? [DigitalPimp]: Preparing... Hmmm... Good question. Probably, most of us have been spending more time drinking beer and watching football since football season has started. Other than that I know most of our guys continuously play the game along with other mods to keep their 1337 skillz intact. [Holocaust]: As I have already stated K4H has always been all about just having fun. We really don’t have any set practices or scrim that often, if at all. We mainly just pub together on servers and play around as much as possible. We play mainly off of individual skill with a very basic model of teamwork that we have established through the years, such as meeting places. All the other things such as chasing an enemy together because he is alone and most likely hurt, is something that we have developed individually through pubbing. After playing as much as we have on servers, you tend to get a sense of where people are on the map, and when is a good time to follow a person and when is a good time to run like a bat out of Hades. We typically get better individually by playing the best people we can find on RA3 servers, and just really getting to know the clans you will be playing against so you can tell what kind of skill level and tactics their members have. ```````````````````````````````````````` [LadyGamers]: Of all the RA3 focused clans out there what was it about the one you joined that attracted you the most? [DigitalPimp]: What attracted me the most to K4H was the promise of money and hot women, but for some reason when I got in none of the promises ever materialized. [Holocaust]: I started the clan. I wanted a clan where my friends could come together and play just to have fun. K4H has always been about good sportsmanship and fun. We try not to be the egotistical and dishonorable scoundrels on servers, because we know that we play with our friends whether in our clan or not. When you play to have fun you typically don’t become a very annoying and egotistical player. We have a great social base, or rather we did. Lately, many of our members have been very busy with other engagements such as school, work or family. A few months back we usually got together to have K4H dinners or all go to a LAN together where we would typically invite other affiliated clans to come and hang out. Certain members of X-D, T2K, and various other people would remember these times with great fondness. When we get together at LANs or outside of the internet we all seem like we have known each other for a very long time, and get along very well, almost like best friends. I know I have made many friends from K4H and brought them into my real life group of friends such as Zack aka Knossos. Quakecons are always a blast, because people that don’t live near Texas come down and we get to party like there is no tomorrow. ```````````````````````````````````````` [LadyGamers]: Do you think your clan has a chance of being the champion of your division in the CAL finals? If not, who do you think will be? [DigitalPimp]: I believe we do have a chance at being the champs for the RA3 division as long as we play as a team and play like we mean it. As for another team to be crowned champion if we don't (no chance in hell), I think it would be up for grabs between a number of high caliber clans. [Holocaust]: K4H always has a chance because of the high skill level that we have recruited and devekoped throughout the years. We handle pressure very well and have played against the best the internet and LANs have to offer. The only thing that could possibly keep us from the title would be the fact that many of our core members are having a very tough time balancing gaming with other responsibilities due to the immense time that real life responsibilities take. We just haven’t had the time lately to play together, or at all for that matter. Another key factor could be the fact that many of us have been hardcore gaming for quite some time some upwards of 6 to 7 years. After this amount of time one tends to get very burned out on gaming and tries to find more enjoyable real life things to do, other things that people in that age group do. ```````````````````````````````````````` [LadyGamers]: Are there female players in your clan? If not, why not? Do they participate in CAL and the playoffs? [DigitalPimp]: Female players... They actually exist???.... j/k... I believe we have only had one in our clan and she is no longer playing with us. At this point in time we don't have any female players in our clan do to the fact that we really don't see that many that might be interested in joining a clan. [Holocaust]: We have had female gamers in our clan in the past, but although I hate to say it, I do not believe we do at this time. I honestly don’t know for sure as I haven’t been around as much as I should be lately due to other responsibilities. ```````````````````````````````````````` [LadyGamers]: Have you ever fallen down in public? [DigitalPimp]: Fallen in public.... I would have to say yes; I have been known to have my fair share of alcohol. [Holocaust]: I’m sure I have, but I just have a really horrible memory, and honestly there are so many times when I was younger that I just cant remember. I was quite the klutz when I was growing up, I don’t think I had the best balance on the face of the planet and fell down quite often. As I have grown up I have developed a very good sense of balance and basically taught myself how to not fall down and stay upright or at least fairly well balanced. ```````````````````````````````````````` |
