Mimic Interview
Conducted By: BiTTeR_IvY
 Got Rail? The
premiere iCTF tourney is BACK! Hosted by xii.Realm. The tourney is now finishing
up it’s second week of matches. The best iCTF teams are there to battle
it out for prizes and bragging rights. I caught up with Mimic, one of the
originators of the tourney, and got a quick interview with her.

What possessed you to have a season 2?
«xii|Mimic»
I decided to have a second season due to popular demand. As soon as season 1 was finished I had numerous players ask when season 2 was going to begin. I was hesitant at first to have another season because it's a lot of work but after giving it some thought I decided to go for it. Response for season 2 has been very positive. The tourney has 20 clans competing which were the same as season 1. Some of the sponsors we had for season 1 are once again donating prizes for season 2.

First Place: Pandoras Box
Second Place: DTKF
Third Place: Rail Gods

With Quakecon being over, do you feel the enthusiasm for quake dieing off?
«xii|Mimic»
No, I feel the enthusiasm is still there. I don't think there is another game that is better then Quake. Even new games that are being released are built on the Quake III engine. Games like Unreal Tournament 2003, Jedi Knight III (Jedi Academy) etc are on the Quake engine. To me those games have a similar feel to Quake. I personally like Quake because of all the different mods. There are so many variations of the game that you really can't get sick of it. I can't say that with other games. Quake III has been on the market for a few years now and it hasn't seemed to lose its popularity. People move to other games but they usually end up playing Quake again. Personally, Quake is the only game I have that I've never deleted from my system. I enjoy playing it too much to start playing something else.

Do you see a lot of clans crossing over from OSP CTF to play iCTF?
«xii|Mimic»
I do. There are a lot more CTF clans around there then are iCTF ones. We had a few CTF clans in season one. The most well known was Cloud 9. Even though they were kings of the CTF world they ended up getting eliminated in the iCTF tourney. A lot of the clans in the tournament play both CTF and iCTF. I think clans from other mods become interested in iCTF when there is a good well-structured tournament to play in. Having prizes to give away to the winning clans definitely helps too. :-)

Are there going to be any new features with the Got Rail? season 2?
«xii|Mimic»
Well, I live by the motto "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Season 1 was very successful so I'm basically keeping things the same. The only main difference is the bracket or tier structure. The bracket structure for season one worked well but some clans didn't like it because they ended up playing the same team more then once. We didn't initially plan to have teams competing against each other more then one time but it ended up that way. For season 2 a tiered approach is being used to prevent clans from playing each other more then once. There will be 2 tiers. Clans will be broken up and placed into a tier that is appropriate for the clans skill level and overall record. I set things up so all the clans can have a good time and compete. I tried to prevent seasoned iCTF clans from beating up some of the newer teams that just signed up. Obviously clans will be eliminated but every team will still be able to play multiple matches and enjoy themselves. Even though Got Rail? is a competitive tournament, I feel the most important aspect is getting clans together to play and have fun. As long as everyone enjoys themselves then the tournament will be a success.
I want to take a quick moment to thank the sponsors that are donating prizes to the Got Rail? tournament.
