Ms. QuakeCon Coordinators Interview
[1 of 2]
Vix came back and forth, only to wonder what the heck is going on, with her honey Albiorix to even assist during finals to shhh people to their knees. Byskwik tried everything in her power to leave the registration desk to see if us girls were okay. She had even more time to visit on Saturday during semi-finals and finals! Ms.Hep for being one of my sisters of war, trying to make sure all of these girls met up, and did what they needed to get the matches done. Below you will find three of the awesome woman of courage. Hear what they had to say about this everlasting two days for Ms. Quakecon 2003!
[LadyGamers]: Now that Ms. Quakecon is over with, do you know if there will be one planned for Quakecon 2004? Are there any ideas you can speak of at this time? Byskwik: We've already begun planning for next year. Things are still very preliminary, so I can't really pinpoint anything real exciting. I can say that we've been kicking around the idea of doing RA3 next year. Only problem is if we do, we'll need a lot more participants. ~

[LadyGamers]: After meeting various Quake Female gamers at this event, were you happy with the overall outcome of Ms. Quakecon? Did you meet any new friends worth keeping? Byskwik: I was happy with the feel we had, but not necessarily with the event itself. No one's to blame for that however. we were all new to this and a certain amout of chaos is inherent in the process, for which we didn't make allowances. This year, with more time for planning, it will be greatly improved. vix: I think for it being our first Ms. Quakecon, it went quite well. We did have a lot of hangups in the beginning and some in the end, but I feel the overall outcome was good. I look forward to doing it again next year. I was always running around doing something, I actually didn't have much time to sit down and talk to any of the girls themselves. I did get to know beta (who was also an admin) a little better than I already had. Of course l4mby and byssi are on that list too. But as far as the participants in the actually tourny, unfortunately I didn't get to talk to them much. Ms.Hep: Oh definitely! I met a lot of friends that I had talked to maybe a few times on IRC but now I talk to all the time! I'm so glad I decided to go! As far as the overall outcome of Ms Quakecon, I was really impressed with how good it ran seeing as we put it together in a little less than 3 months! ~

[LadyGamers]: I noticed that most of who were admin (referees) for Ms. Quakecon hardly spent time to actually eat. What was the best tasting meal you ate while you were at Quakecon? Byskwik:
Actually I got real lucky on this one. As part of official
staff for Quakecon it's self, id software treated us all to dinner on
Sunday night. I had a very good filet mignon and some excellent martinis.
Doc wrote down the recipte, so I plan on getting all the MsQuakecon Admins
(except for Amy) trashed on em next year once the tourney's over. vix: Oh man, FOOD! lol Actually the Chinese food place in the Plaza of America's was the best meal I had. Was the best chinese I have had in a long time. Getting to sit down and enjoy a meal wasn't quite in the schedule lol but we made time for it. Ms.Hep: You're asking a pregnant woman what was the best tasting meal I had while at Quakecon! I'd have to say the free pizza we got from Nvidia! Something about FREE makes it taste soooo much better! Hehe ~

[LadyGamers]: Did you get a chance to play the Doom 3 demo? If so what are your brief impressions on the upcoming game? Byskwik: I did indeed, and I loved it. The mouse sensitivity was turned up too high for my personal tastes, but the game play is great. I especially loved shooting the dead body hanging from the ceiling. Dunno why, but it amused me to no end to make it swing back and forth. vix: Unfortunately, I didn't. I was sad =\ Ms.Hep: I didn't get to play. I was napping during my timeslot :( ~

[LadyGamers]: Can you share some of your favorite moments while you were at Quakecon? Was it as good as you expected it to be this year? Byskwik: It hasn't all sunk in yet, but getting the alienware socks from stirge after pestering him most of the week pops into mind. ;) Being able to see all of my friends IRL is always part of the thrill, along with partying. (Quakecon is nigh on the only partying I do, since I don't really go out to clubs.) vix: Oh man, favorite moments hehe there's too many to count. Other than dealing with the personal issues from time to time, every moment was a favorite moment. If I had to pick just one though, Saturday night was definately my favorite night. Those who were there know what I'm talking about =] Ms.Hep: Some of my favorite moments were just sitting around talking to my friends. It was really good to come together with friends I had been talking to online for some time and friends I had known already in real life. It was also good to spend some quality time with my fiancé Hepcat. It was exactly as I expected it to be...and so much more! ~

[LadyGamers]: Once you found out who the winners were, were any of them a surprise? Most of us who knew Succubus registered for the tournament already felt she’d be 1st place but what about the other girls? Byskwik: Suga really took me by surprise. I'll admit when I first found out that she's 14 I kinda assumed she'd be this annoying little thing who was only doing it for the attention. I'm happy to say she proved me dead wrong. She did an amazing job and really held her own. vix: Ya know, I really wasn't. Of course Succubus (Cary) has already made a name for herself in the gaming world. She is an excellent player and a great sport. I had a feeling Ms.X would take 2nd, as she did. Sanctuary's placing took me by surprise. I don't really know her and I never got a chance to watch her play, but I know the match between her and suga (for 3rd and 4th place) was a good one. I would like to say good job to all the girls who played in the tournament and congrats to you winners.
Ms.Hep: I
agree, I already knew Succubus would win when she registered and I'm
really glad she did. I was surprised by the outcome of all the players,
since I'm not big in the gaming community I don't know who's good and
who's not so good, so players I thought were not so good ended up way high
on the score board!
