Ms. QuakeCon Coordinators Interview  [2 of 2]

In part two of the Ms. Quakecon Coordinators interview we talk to three more courageous women of this event. Lamby was the honorary lady of all, she took her ground even if she was forced to go on her own rabbit trail of personal consequences. Beta was thrown into the fire, only to have help from an FLC clanmate to save all of our butts the first evening. Dovey was another sister of war, trying to make sure all of these girls met up, and did what they needed to get the matches done. Hear what they had to say about this everlasting two days for Ms. Quakecon 2003!

[LadyGamers]:  Now that Ms. Quakecon is over with, do you know if there will be one planned for Quakecon 2004? Are there any ideas you can speak of at this time?

L4mby: There is already planning going on for next year. Right now we're just going over basic stuff. What to do next year in order to make it better, etc.

[LadyGamers]:  After meeting various Quake Female gamers at this event, were you happy with the overall outcome of Ms. Quakecon? Did you meet any new friends worth keeping?

L4mby: Yes and no. The tourney itself went horrible. Not that anybody is to blame for this. I knew when I said I'd take this position that it was going to go bad. But, it was the 1st time, and b/c of that, it was a trial and error period. Must have the error before you can make anything right. A lot of things went wrong, but the only way to look at this is to take that and turn it into good things in the future. Being that we only had 3 or so weeks to plan this ahead of time, I think it went well. Yes, it could have gone a lot better, but honestly, what things can't? I can assure you that next year will be much more organized and overall better. I was happy that we at least followed through with it and got it finished and done. That in itself was a big accomplishment.

Dovey:  I was happy that Ms. Quakecon got the attention that it did, but the type of attention we got was kinda like it was all a joke. I wish some of these guys would take us a little more seriously. I made a lot of friends and I hope to keep them all.

Beta:  Honestly, no!!! lol Don't get me wrong... I loved meeting all the ladies n such but I really got totally stressed out over being on the staff and working so much!  This was my first Quakecon to bring my computer and I didn't even get to touch my pc until Saturday!  :(  This of course was the first time for Ms. Quakecon and a very good learning experience for all of us and hopefully next year will move forward with no problems! :)

[LadyGamers]:  I noticed that most of who were admin (referees) for Ms. Quakecon hardly spent time to actually eat. What was the best tasting meal you ate while you were at Quakecon?

L4mby: I didn't really eat much while there being b/c I was extremely busy. My QC trip extended from Tuesday to Monday, so I was there a lot longer than most regular attendees. My best meal was actually on Sunday night. Chicken alfredo pizza from Birraporetti's in Arlington. YUM! Best pizza evar! It is the win!

Beta:  Um... probably on the one morning I actually got to eat which was Sunday as I was leaving and that was a bagel :/  Other than that I constantly ran over to McDonald's for one of their new salads yum!

Dovey:  Well, I tell you.. the best meal I ate was probably the free pizza I got while volunteering on Wednesday setup, 'cause every other day I had Mickey D's and Chinese.

[LadyGamers]:  Did you get a chance to play the Doom 3 demo? If so what are your brief impressions on the upcoming game?

L4mby: Unfortunately, I did not. Since I was really busy doing stuff for the tourney, and other general QC stuff, I didn't have the time to play Doom 3, or see the vendor area like I had wanted to. It's ok though, I know it kicked butt!

Beta:  No I didn't get a chance to play it :( but I REALLY wanted to.

Dovey: No, I was too busy volunteering and didn't get a chance to get a ticket and didn't have time to stand around the area to get in.

[LadyGamers]:  Can you share some of your favorite moments while you were at Quakecon? Was it as good as you expected it to be this year?

L4mby: I was really stressed out during the couple days of the tourney when I was running my butt off. However, overall, QC was a blast. There isn't always just good. Gotta take the bad in stride w/ all the good. I got to meet a lot of really cool people. A lot of which I became really good friends with. So spending time with my new friends was probably the most rewarding. It was what I expected and more. I never expected to go home with so many new friends. That by far was awesome.

Although, specific moments would have to be 'Crimp Nation', tear down and Birraporetti's. I had a blast crimping, even though it's tedious and makes your fingers hurt. This is where I started talking to some people. We had a lot of inside jokes among 'Crimp Nation', so that made it fun.

Beta:  I didn't have many good moments at Quakecon this year, I know lots of others that did... but it just wasn't a good weekend for me.

Dovey: Favorite moments.. that is a hard question... cause I LOVED all of Quakecon, but I think favorite moments would have to be at the party I went to on Saturday night.. hehe.

[LadyGamers]: Once you found out who the winners were, were any of them a surprise? Most of us who knew Succubus registered for the tournament already felt she’d be 1st place but what about the other girls?

L4mby: Honestly, I didn't really know at the time. I don't play much Q3, nor any other games at the moment, so a lot of these girls I had never known until the day we started the tourney. I had only played a couple of the girls, so it was really hard for me to tell. I had heard from other people who they were sure of who was going to win, but other than that, I didn't really know. I was really impressed with Suga though. Being that she is only 14, and that she kicked a lot of butt, was really cool. You go girl!

Beta:  My predictions were.  1st - Succubus, 2nd - Ms X, 3rd - Missy and 4th - Krissy, I never had a chance to play Sanctuary or Suga personally in dm 1v1 but just from my gaming experience I KNOW that Missy and Krissy are both EXCELLENT players but were knocked out in earlier rounds due to Succubus and Ms X.

Dovey:  Well to tell you the truth I think I could have been 3rd if I hadn't have slept in, Sanctuary is a former clanmate of mine. I think I would have given her a run for her money.
