*SpICeY*: I started playing multiplayer games because of my husband. I was curious about the "addiction" that he had developed, so I wanted to see for myself. When I first started, I was reeeeeeeeeally bad! I got nauseous just trying to watch the screen. It was awful!! Finally, after sitting there enough times playing and watching him, I got used to the movement...and I haven't been able to give up my addiction ever since! He has definitely been the most influential person in my gaming hobby. [LadyGamers]: What gave you the desire to enter the Miss Quakecon tournament? Was it because you live in Texas and planned on already attending? Is it because it's the only Quake III Arena female tournament in ages? *SpICeY*: I participated in the "Miss Quakecon" contest at Quakecon 2002. Needless to say, it was a bit degrading to be treated like a piece of meat, and the women who attended the event last year started having ideas about a tournament. It's an awesome idea! When I heard that they were actually in the planning stages, I was really excited. I think it's wonderful that this year's "Ms. Quakecon" will truly be the Queen of the Game, not just a beauty queen. And living in Texas doesn't hurt, either. =) [LadyGamers]: When it comes to how many female gamers you have met so far, would you say you have met a couple or a lot? Is there a certain place that you met majority of them or was it spread through out the gaming community? *SpICeY*: I would definitely say I know a lot. Considering that the world of online gaming is predominantly masculine, I think it's great that the number of women is growing. When I played Quake 2, I was in an all-female clan named *scarie*. Since then, I've met most of them randomly on servers. There are also some fellow female fraggers in my current clan, {KYA}, and among our allies. And every one of them is AWESOME! *GirL PoWeR!!* [LadyGamers]: How do you feel about games that don't allow you to play as a female player model? Does it matter to you that you're playing as a guy? Is it all about gameplay more so than what you really look like in the game? Could it be that it makes you feel more apart of the game if you are a female player model? *SpICeY*: I play with the Slash/grrl model in Q3 and the Faerie model in Q2...but I would not be bothered if there were no female models in the online gaming world. In my opinion, it just isn't that relevant. I mean, let's face it...there are even guys who use the female models. That doesn't mean they are less of a player, and generally no one pays much attention. ZeRo4 still would have won the QCon 2001 tourney regardless of his player model. It really IS about the gameplay. [LadyGamers]: How would you spend a million dollars? Would any of it be spent towards your love for games? Maybe a brand new spankin computer you'd throw in at the same time to play those awesome games? *SpICeY*: I would buy a yellow Hummer H2 and a seafoam green VW Beetle, and I would build a house with a McDonald's-type Playland and an awesome computer room/office. It'd be complete with cables to host a LAN party, surround sound systems for each of the permanent computers, and the most comfortable chairs money can buy! I would definitely indulge my husband and buy him whatever upgrade he wanted for his computer, and I would buy myself a massive flat-panel monitor to go with my tiny little Shuttle box. (I love this thing...I wouldn't replace it!) I would also give money to my parents and my husband's parents to thank them for the awesome job they did with us!! I'd probably also give in and buy a lifetime subscription to The SIMS Online. =) |
