The Women of the Online Gaming League
By: Jube
OGL/Gaming Nickname: GiBzGiRL
Location: Ohio
Birthday: 11/09/68
Current Games: Quake2 WoD, Freeze
Favourite Games: same
Clan: Lethal Old Farts (LOF)
[LG]: How did you come to be involved in the wonderful world of online gaming?
[GiBzGiRL]: I started playing Quake, because when my husband and I were dating, it seemed
like I couldn't pull him away from it, so I decided to join him, and I've been hooked ever since.
[LG]: What do your family and friends think of your very time consuming gaming hobby?
[GiBzGiRL]: Well, as above, my husband plays, a LOT more than I do, and my 13 yr old son
plays, and I have a 6 yr old that is dying to start playing.
[LG]: How did you get started with the OGL, and which games do you work with currently?
[GiBzGiRL]: I got started with OGL, when I started getting all into freeze tag, all
of the clans there were doing matches, etc, but there was not a ladder on OGL. I tracked
down a friend who had been involved in OGL, and he helped me get in touch with the right
people, and we got the ladder put up.
[LG]: Based on your OGL experiences, which game's community makes you think "*phew* glad
I don't work on that ladder", and why do you think they're rowdier than other communities
you're familiar with?
[GiBzGiRL]: I don't really pay attention to the other ladders a whole lot, my time
is very limited now due to my job, and beings I only play two different mods of the same
game, I guess I don't get out much.. LOL
[LG]: Are you currently competing in any ladders or tournaments yourself? If so, what's
your record like, and do you think your opponents take you less seriously because you're female?
[GiBzGiRL]: I'm only competing on my own ladder, and activity is getting rather slow there.
Our team is at the bottom of the list. I don't think anyone takes me less seriously, the freeze
"community" is probably about equally male/female.
[LG]: What game(s) are you most looking forward to the release of?
[GiBzGiRL]: None, actually.
[LG]: Are you currently romantically attached? If so, are you with a fellow gamer? If not,
would you rather date a gamer or non-gamer, and why?
[GiBzGiRL]: I cannot even imagine not being with a gamer. I started playing so he and
I would have this in common, and now that we do, I just do not think any non-gamer would
understand the "addiction".
