The Women of the Online Gaming League
By: Jube
OGL/Gaming Nickname: JH
Location: Michigan City, In
Birthday: 6-28-1967
Current Games: Quake 3, Quake 2, and Everquest
Favourite Games: Quake
Clan: N/A
Former Clans: MACHINE
[LG]: How did you come to be involved in the wonderful world of online gaming?
[JH]: My ex boyfriend dragged me kicking and screaming into first person shooters. I
was stuck on Diablo at the time and I didn't want any part of them. I finally decided to
give it a try and after awhile I grew to love them. My ex and his friend decided to start
a clan (MACHINE) and I wound up taking over for them. While my team was competing, I
heard that the ladder administrator for the ladder we were on was leaving and I applied
for the position and was hired. This was how I became involved with the OGL.
[LG]: What do your family and friends think of your very time consuming gaming hobby?
[JH]: My family dosen't get it at all, most of my friends think I am nuts. They cannot
figure out why a woman would like playing these kinds of games. I try to tell them and whenever
I do they just look at me as if I went off the deep end.
[LG]: How did you get started with the OGL, and which games do you work with currently?
[JH]: I got started in OGL when my adminstrator for the ladder I played on stepped down.
Currently I am the League Official for Quake 1 and Quake 2.
[LG]: Based on your OGL experiences, which game's community makes you think "*phew* glad I don't
work on that ladder", and why do you think they're rowdier than other communities you're familiar
with?
[JH]: I have work on several different game ladders that covered quite a few games. I never
minded working with one community vs another. Whenver I took over a new ladder, I always treated
it as a learning experience. Now there have been times where certain players start working my
nerve but you have that in ever gaming community.
[LG]: Are you currently competing in any ladders or tournaments yourself? If so, what's
your record like, and do you think your opponents take you less seriously because you're female?
[JH]: I am not currently competing on any ladders at this time because of my work schedule,
I work evenings and that is just not condusive to competitions. When I was playing and running
a team, I didn't run into too many people that gave me problems for being a female. If they did,
I always thought it was because of the type of person I am, not because I am a woman.
[LG]: What game(s) are you most looking forward to the release of?
[JH]: Doom3 and Quake 4
[LG]: Are you currently romantically attached? If so, are you with a fellow gamer? If not,
would you rather date a gamer or non-gamer, and why?
[JH]: No, I am not currently attached. I will probably not date a guy that isn't gamer.
So much of my life has been and become online gaming that it would be easier on the relationship
to be with someone who understands the whole "gaming" thing. If they don't have a clue what a
ping is and why a low ping is better than a high ping we got problems. ;)
