It happened today. Half way through one of my
ridiculously early Ra2 matches I looked up at the spectator
window to find myself looking at another
UNR player.
J First time in ages, and more
importantly that player was the one and only Finn, aka Andrew
Southgate, the guy responsible amongst many things for the ClanWars mod
and for originally setting up #quake2.uk. A big welcome back
to our wandering star and his brand new JANET connection,
(your days are numbered RSC!
J) and hopefully now you'll find
the channel a little more sane. As before, if you have any
problems with spammers or abusive clients (and ops…
J) he's the man to go to.
A quick welcome back to Deity too. J
This week's been a week of change. With the Minos domain
closing we find BarrysWorld adopting their well-deserved crown
as Quake/Quake2 in the UK. After having put so much in, (and
having got so little out, remember these guys run BarrysWorld
for nowt) it's nice to see the Qumminty finally giving them
the respect they deserve. And as DBs mentioned in his column
earlier this week, the UK masters can now be found on their
web server.
I`ve also been told that Hakeem, Qw lamer general (J)
has replaced his girlfriend with Clan King of
Savage Sunday
Cup fame, (which incidentally, has it`s 3rd round
draw this coming Sunday.) Welcome to the fold Hak, see how
long it takes you to catch up eh? J
After having mentioned the unrest in #quake2.uk it's
difficult not to mention it's outcome. For those of you who
find yourself on the receiving end of abuse and or a ban from
any of the ops in #quake2.uk, BarrysWorld have opened
the slightly more sensible sounding #Quake2, run only by
themselves and their trusted few, where you'll find impartial
help and advice. It's also somewhere for the banned to come to
appeal. I find it, amongst many things, a let down that the op
responsible for the mess has got away with it, and I'm not
sure whether to put it down to his alleged importance, or my
lack of communication with the other ops, but I'll stand by my
case and if those who matter find my word that unreliable then
that's something I can do very little about. Such is a world
of men and their egos, but thanks go to Finn, Tas and DBs for
sorting things out.
I`ve been asked once again to plug the now extremely close Frenzy,
tho I think you've all got the message by now, and I'd ask you
all to re-request Alex, aka {Abfab}VincentVega`s
ICQ number so he can add you all again after having lost his
set up in a HD upgrade. (Well, I say upgrade only cos I don't
wanna make him sound silly for formatting his HD by accident
or sommit similar…like certain King players I could mention,
eh Che? Can you say, "doh!" J)
On the subject of BarrysWorld and their position as UK
master, I'm pleased to see so many US types on the BarrysWorld
and Netcom servers` late nite now. With the UK having been in
the shadow of the US for community news and mod releases for
so long, the recent insurgence is a breath of fresh air.
Perhaps now we'll have mod servers available the day the new
mod is released rather than a week or a month later.

have the long drive to Cream to look forward to tomorrow… Wish
