Chicks who Play Games - Anushka Panesar

This week, we profile our first girl gamer. This could be any of you out there! This is an opportunity for people to see what chicks like to play, what we are good at, and what we have to say about the industry as a whole. Read on and find out what our first girl gamer thinks about what is going on!

OK, on with Chicks who Play Games...

Anushka Panesar: Girl Gamer Extraordinaire!
Who are you?
Well duh! I'm me, who else could I be? I hope these get more challenging...

Note from gameDiva: Anushka is a friend of mine from Montreal

What do you do?
I stude (as in I am a student) at Concordia University. I’m studying languages (Spanish, Italian, German and Latin). I also sing and I eventually want to go into either opera, theatre or firefighting.

Why do you play video games?
Why else? You get to do anything and everything you ever wanted to do but were told not to, or are too dumb to actually do. Like blow things up and fly planes and shoot people, plus it's an awesome stress reliever and it's great for the imagination.

But really, it's not all I do, after all who wants to become lazy! Although if that's what you like...after all I used to, then I started to play rugby!

What is the first video game you remember playing?
That would either have to be Pong or Tron. We used to have this really cool version of Tron when we were kids. It looked like a mini arcade machine. I think we still have it somewhere. Oh yeah! I'm 23....

What is your current favorite game? What is your favorite all-time game?
Well unfortunately I've taken a little sabbatical from game playing because I had three jobs this summer, and I’m in school now, you know, enriching myself. But I think Bond, Doom and Starcraft are up there.

Favorite System?
I think it would have to be the Super NES, they still haven't beat the games for it. I mean really, for the N64 the games just had better graphics, they weren't any harder then before, in fact I found them easier.

What movie would you most like to see turned into a video game?

  • Total recall

What about the other way around (video game to movie)?

  • Wipe out

Is this column the best thing you have ever read in your life?
    Shameless promotion by gameDiva
Dunno, I have been offered this questionnaire before it's even started...sorry. No shameless promotion for u!

Note from gameDiva: How humiliating, I’ll be sending her a link and re-asking the question when the column starts!

    Biggest video game pet peeve?
The better the graphics and realism gets, the less challenging the game gets. Also, that no one plays the game anymore. The second someone has to use their brain, they're running to the Net to find the walkthrough or cheat code, what's up with that? Didn't you just spend a whole whack of money on the game? For what, to have someone else finish it for you?

What kind of new games would you like to see on the market?
I'm not sure about that one...they already have war games, and flight simulators, thinking games, sports games, hey they even have Disney games. Maybe they could combine them all and make some sort of triathlon game, if you know what I mean.

And there you have it folks, our first Chicks who Play Games profile! Feel free to send me your opinion or volunteer to be a girl gamer here yourself by emailing me at the address below.
