CaliGirl Interview

I had the pleasure of having an exclusive interview with the Diva of Gaming News--Cali Girl. She is one of the best news reporters on the net. No gaming news can be hidden from her. She is a hard dedcated worker. She knows everything before us and she is a gamer. We are lucky to have her in the gaming community.

Where did you come up with your name and what does it mean?
[CaliGirl]
I originally enjoyed playing games on the Apple PC plus colsole games on Atari when I was really young on up to playing Nintendo, Sega and Playstation. Plus playing singleplayer computer games such as Nascar. I also liked playing games like Lazer Tag at Q-Zar and games at different arcade gaming places which I noticed not very many girls weren't interested in playing the games for some reason.

DarkViper (my younger brother) mentioned to me about a really cool strategy game he was playing on the net on Mplayer.com called C&C Command & Conquer. In order to play the game I needed to come up with a nickname to choose real fast to get my free membeship to play the game on Mplayer.com it was a combat type of game at the time and the movie, "GI Jane" wasn't currently in the works of being made, so I just chose GIJody.
DarkViper and I also enjoyed taking one of our black female Labrador Retrievers named Shadow to swim at Dog Beach in Ocean Beach, California. After a few weeks of playing C&C I decided to change my name. I wanted a name having to do with sunshine.

My brother DarkViper said use California Girl as your new nick name. So I then changed my name to California Girl. My C&C player friends would also call me for short Cali, CGirl, and CG. Once I started playing action games like Quake and other games requiring a shorter name I used the name of Cali Girl.

How did you get started on the Internet?
[CaliGirl]
When I was 15 years old my brother (DarkViper) and I was already playing games on the console along with the computer. He connected us to AOL. At that time I chose the nick name of Leopardess due to my leopard collection. I was also into collecting comics so I would just visit the Comic sites and sometimes visit Comic chat lobbies to learn more about the comics.

What is it like being the number 1 news reporter on the net?
[CaliGirl]
Hmm, that would be so hard to say. I mean, James 'Prophet' Fudge was aka "King of Gaming News" now at Computer Games Online will always remain a legend to me, he has always been the top man in news no matter where he goes. Then all of the action game fans have the honor of still having Stephen 'Blue' Heaslip keep them up with the Quake legacy as well as other action games. My brother, Jacob 'Darkviper' Robinson too, he always keeps everyone up with the latest Action gaming news along with sites such as the ActionXtreme.com, Unreal Kingdom, Rainbow six.net, Drakan.net and his very long list of other action game related news sites he releases.

Billy 'Wicked' Wilson over at Voodoo Extreme does such an awesome job keeping everyone up-to-date with Hardware Accelator Games as well as hardware. Others such as John Graham, Redwood over at Stomped.com, Portax over at Telefragged, and Jeremy over at AGN3d. There are more but those are the key ones I see that are very dedicated in what they do and will usually update their site no matter if they are sick or not, just to give us an awesome full dose of daily gaming news. So, it really would be hard for me to except that I was the #1 news reporter on the net, right? :)

Can you tell us a bit about the things Web Site features, such as the messageboards, voting etc. of CaliGirl.Net?

[CaliGirl]
After about a month of my brother's published site called MQN Modified Quake News. I decided to try to publish a gaming news site called CGN Cali Girl News now known as (CGN) CaliGirl.Net http://www.caligirl.net./

CGN was a site I originally started October 13th, 1997 hosted by DarkViper's R-Electron Network for my gamer buddies on the net. I would update the page daily with news about games I personally enjoyed like Quake, C&C and certain upcoming games I saw appealing. I guess the word got around and then I started getting a pretty good response which really amazed me. In 1998 the site was hosted by Gamesmania http://www.gamesmania.com until a little bit after the sale of Gamesmania (Cali Girl.Net is at this time not hosted by a Game Network) CGN CaliGirl.Net is still updated with Gaming Scene News daily a long with Community Happenings on gamer birthdays, community events, other community news along with updates on clans added to Domain of the Righteous Warriors http://www.caligirl.net/domain for my gaming friends and new viewers. The site towards the top under Community section is the CaliGirl.net MessageBoard (I usually have a poll for voting at the messageboard) under the left side Menu. Some of the sites I am staff and editor of are also mentioned on the left frame: Jediknight.net http://www.jediknight.net, Other LucasGames Network sites http://www.lucasgames.com, XtremeNetwork sites http://www.xtremenetwork.com, Gamers Extreme Network http://www.gamers.com and PingThis.com http://www.pingthis.com (New).
The site also contains a page of my related sites including international sites called Cali Girl Related Sites http://www.caligirl.net/cgrelated/index.html. This page contains bookmarks for your convenience to choose your desire of an individual game or community site from the page.

Can you tell us about one of your favorite gaming memories?
[CaliGirl]
I have a lot of C&C memories along with Quake memories but I think they would be a bit lengthy trying to describe in an interview. If you want, you can check out a C&C Memories article: http://www.strategyxtreme.com/previews/westwood_cc2.html I recently wrote up after I was back from E3 this year. :)

How long have you been into online games?
[CaliGirl]
I have played online multiplayer games since March of 1997.

What type of plans do you have for the future of your gaming career?

[CaliGirl]
I hope I stay long enough in the Gaming Scene on the net to make it a career. So far, I have done a lot more in reporting for many gaming sites but I do enjoy designing and creating the sites as well.

What is the some of the favorite games you have ever played for the PC?
[CaliGirl]
It's hard to choose a game when a person enjoys playing several types of games. Lately, I have been really busy with publishing more new sites so I haven't had time again to play a lot of games but I do take time to try new ones out when I get a chance.

Here they are in order as far as type of games as follows: Action: Quake, Starsiege Tribes, Jedi Knight. I really liked playing Quake II and I have played Q3ATest but to me Quake II and Quake 3 Arena haven't been as good as good as ol' Quake. Now once Unreal Tournament is out what I have viewed so far in that game, Unreal Tournament REALLY ROCKS! and may be my next favorite FPS action game. Strategy: C&C Command & Conquer and Age of Empires. I also played C&C: Red Alert but to me C&C Conquer was faster with more action. What I saw on C&C: Tiberian Sun...it really looks like it will satisfy my old C&C Cravings but I am still unsure if it will replace C&C yet until it's released. RPG and Sims: Baldur's Gate, Nascar. I may change my mind this year on Role Playing Games once Nihilistic releases their Vampire: The Masquerade game.

What is the worst game you have ever played for the PC?
[CaliGirl]
I haven't really ran into one that I actually could say is the worst game (or hated). I used to beta test a lot of games for multiplaying. One of the last games while I was testing was Quake II before it was released. If a game wasn't that good I would just think of things that could be improved on a game and then forget about it and not play it again after it was tested for multiplayer gaming. Now I just check out the games and decide from there. :) Other than that, I usually get pretty bored when I play a multiplayer Turned Based Strategy games. It just gets me tired when I wait for an amount of time I could of been playing the game. I don't mind Turned based games for single player though. I think it could be because the computer is fast enough for me to wait for. However, there is one game that wasn't to bad, SSI's Warhammer: Chaos Gate. That game changed my mind on always thinking all turned based games were boring. :)

But, I really enjoy playing Action and RTS ( Real Time Strategy) games a lot, they usually have so much action going on in them.

What is your favorite food, desert and after mid-night snack?

[CaliGirl]
Again, I couldn't just pick one favorite food this time due to I may have only a craving for a certain food or desert for one day and not the next day, if you know what I mean? :) Here are some of the cravings I desire at times: I love homemade Macaroni and cheese for American Food, Homemade Spagetti for Italian Food, Egg Fu Yong for Chinese Food and Chile Reno for Mexican Food. I usually enjoy pretty spicy flavored food with jalepenos (not to much) and red peppers, stuff like that.

On deserts, I rarely have them so when I do, I usually like something like a banana split or Pralines and Cream ice cream, fresh Strawberry pie with whip cream or Chocolate Ice cream that isn't to rich. That reminds me, I think I want a Strawberry Pie for my birthday this year. :)

Whats your favorite Soft Drink? and why?
[CaliGirl]
I like Pepsi most of the time but at times, I enjoy Cherry Coke and Barq's Rootbeer with ice.

What do you think about the Clan World Network?
[CaliGirl]
I really like how it still supports Lucasarts' Jedi Knight game as well as the current hot games such as Starsiege Tribes, Half-life, Rainbow Six, Quake 3 Arena Test and other games.

Do you think our leagues and ladders are on the best around?
[CaliGirl]
When it comes to ladders, Case's ladder is one I have known about for years. I feel the Clan Network is getting up there and offers a lot more than it first did but sometimes things just takes time. I have noticed a lot of Jediknight players mentioning how cool it was when you have tournaments and events.

If You were to join a tournament would it be for the prizes we give away or competition or both?

[CaliGirl]
I would join for both the prizes and the competition. :)

What is the gaming industry's best kept secret?

[CaliGirl]
I don't think I know of any secrets at this time. :)
