General Questions:
Q How did you get your start in Quake?
A I actually got the game from a friend. I used
to play all the quake games and he let me
borrow his game. I was hooked from day one. I
only started playing quake online with quake 2.
Q What prompted you to start up the GotRails
tourney?
A I started GotRail? for a few reasons. I
noticed that some of the gaming ladders were
dead and people were always stating that
InstaGib was dying. I started talking to the
clan and we all agreed that having a tourney
would not only promote the iCTF community in q3
but would help the clan as a whole. I am not
the brainchild behind making a tourney, the
clan as a whole decided on it.
Q What is your biggest pet peeve, or form of
unsportsmanlike conduct?
AMy biggest pet peeve is trash talking. I can't
stand it when a clan or someone thinks they are
leet. Everyone started out in the same playing
field, it just takes time to get better. Some
guys just don't understand that women do play
this game too.
Q Do you feel that interest in Quake 3 is dying
out?
A No, I feel the enthusiasm is still there. I
don't think there is another game that is
better then Quake. Even new games that are
being released are built on the Quake III
engine. Games like Unreal Tournament 2003, Jedi
Knight III (Jedi Academy) etc are on the Quake
engine. To me those games have a similar feel
to Quake. I personally like Quake because of
all the different mods. There are so many
variations of the game that you really can't
get sick of it. I can't say that with other
games. Quake III has been on the market for a
few years now and it hasn't seemed to lose its
popularity. People move to other games but they
usually end up playing Quake again. Personally,
Quake is the only game I have that I've never
deleted from my system. I enjoy playing it too
much to start playing something else.
Q Do you see a lot of clans crossing over from
OSP CTF to play iCTF?
A I do. There are a lot more CTF clans around
there then are iCTF ones. We had a few CTF
clans in season one. The most well known was
Cloud 9. Even though they were kings of the CTF
world they ended up getting eliminated in the
iCTF tourney. A lot of the clans in the
tournament play both CTF and iCTF. I think
clans from other mods become interested in iCTF
when there is a good well-structured tournament
to play in. Having prizes to give away to the
winning clans definitely helps too. :-)
More Questions:
Q How do you feel about the general attitude
toward female gamers?
A I think it is great. More and more females
are starting to play. It gives women a better
understand why men play and enjoy the
competition. You do not have to be a hard core
gamer to enjoy playing. I wish more females
would play.
Q If there was any one thing you could change
about the way you play. What would it be?
A I would want to be able to strafe jump
faster.
Q Being the head admin for a popular iCTF
tourney, currently in its 3rd season, what has
been the most difficult aspect to handle?
A Getting private messages over and over when
the questions you are being asked are in the
rules. No matter how many times you tell
someone it is in the rules, you get the lazy
answer of "It was faster to talk to you than
read".
Q . There seems to be a great deal of
controversy surrounding current issues with map
exploits. Do you feel that the window in
q3wcp18 should be considered an exploit?
(compared to the one in ospctf2) Explain why.
A I have been told the map maker did not attend
for the space behind the flag to be accessible.
To me it is part of the map and is accessible
with anyones help. Some say it is an exploit
and others disagree. I lean towards the end
that it is not an exploit.
Q Do you believe that women gamers who choose a
provocative nickname should expect a certain
amount of negative attention?
A I have no idea why a woman would even choose
a provocative nickname. Most gamers are men and
when they see a provocative nickname, they are
going to make comments. I believe that if you
make a provocative nickname, you are looking
for attention. I can not see how someone would
make a provocative nickname and not foresee
that they are going to receive controversy
because of it. If you want to play and not be
bothered, pick up the dictionary and choose a
name from there.
