The_Bitch [TS], (May
1998)
"The_Bitch [TS]" is one of toughest Female Quake Players in Australia, a founding
member of the Tormented
Souls, and works for Gamesonline
Sydney, a dedicated Quake ISP specialising
in providing high-quality, 56K connections and a collection of the hottest Duel
servers in the country. Her experience in tournament and match design, alongside GoDZillA
[TS], make her a valuable member of our
community. She has kindly agreed to play alongside Bro against sCary and
Kornelia if/when Ozy and Hoony get that connection running. That first-hand
experience will be put to good use as Bitchy will no doubt be looking to steer
some of GolSyd's star players into future internationals and fun-match dustups.
Bitchy is well-known in the Australian community for saying what she thinks, and
is not shy to mix it with "the boys". A Classic Quake Player.
Challenge-au:
How did you come by your screen-name?
Bitchy:
For reason or another
I have always been called a bitch. I thought it would be great for a Quake name
and then I figured why just be "a" bitch when I can be The_Bitch ;) Bitchy is
kinda cute though, and my mates usually refer to me as Bitchy :)
Challenge-au:
What do you think of the Kiwis now being part of our scene (in a
sense) - what with them posting on message boards and so on?
Bitchy:
Well to be honest I
have never seen a Kiwi play Quake. IMHO no matter how confident they are I
really think they have no idea how great some Aussie Quakers are. Aussies vs
Kiwis, damn thats gonna be a harsh game, and someone's gonna get hurt really
bad. Just like with every other sport, there is a lot of rivalry between the two
nations so it's gonna be a blast. When it comes down to it though we are
neighbours and it would great to see a joint effort in organising some kind of
LAN that is specifically for the Aussies and the Kiwis to get together, from
there I would like to see something like a mixed team of Aussies and Kiwis
taking on the Yanks and the Poms. That would cain I reckon. But then again that
may involve alot of training sessions for the Kiwis ;)
Challenge-au:
Heard of any NZ Female Players?
Bitchy:
No I haven't, but I
assume there are quite a few of em. And having a few Kiwi mates I reckon they'd
be just as violent off line as they are online ;)
Challenge-au:
How did you get into playing Quake? How long have you been playing
now?
Bitchy:
Herculez got me into
Quake. We all used to play alot of Doom on LAN. One day he came over yelling
about this new game from the guys who created doom. That was the start of
something awesome:P Started playing online and haven't stopped since.
Challenge-au:
What have been the biggest changes?
Bitchy:
The biggest changes I
have seen would have to be online Quake, i.e QW. I started playing winquake
online and used to do ok with my 1000 ping:P When QW came out I hated it. Took
me ages to get into it, finally I did and I stopped playing winquake all
together, except at LANS. Now with the new QW release we are back where we all
started. All the physics have a winquake feel so again it's gonna take a while
for many of us to get use to. I'm sure alot of dedicated online Quakers are very
annoyed with the new release, but I think its the best thing that has happened.
All I can say is everyone should stop winging about it and get on with the game,
its here to stay and its going to take a while for some to get used to so u
better start practising :)
Challenge-au:
What do you think of the scene now that a lot of ppl have been
playing for 2 years or so?
Bitchy:
The Quake scene in
Australia is amazing! People are so dedicated and fanatical about Quake. Aussies
are known to be very fanatical when it comes to sport and this has turned into a
sport for us. The amount of time and money we have all put in is quite
remarkable. Clans in Australia are like footy clubs. There's a lot of hate for
one another online, some of the abuse dished out is unbelievable:P But when it
comes down to it, most quakers in Australia are very close. We are a small
community and when we all get together at huge LANS everyone seems to get along.
There hasn't been a punch up at a LAN yet, but I hear rumours that there's one
on the way ;)
Challenge-au:
Is it harder or easier for newbies to get into Quake now?
Bitchy:
Heaps easier. Newbies
have it made. If they are online all they have to do is find a few quake related
sites and they can learn everything they need to become good players. Ofcourse
they have to be dedicated and play alot to become great, but to get into Quake
its heaps easier now. If they happen to join #quake however, they will hear
abuse for being newbies... but hey thats life ;)
Challenge-au:
What are your favourite Quake maps? Do you play much FFA, CTF or TF,
or do you mostly play Duel? Who’s your favourite dueling partner? What do you
think of 2-on-2?
Bitchy:
Favourite map would
have to be DM4. Its the perfect dueling map, you have to be very alert and
theres no time for camping or lurking like on other maps. I play a fair bit of
FFA, have to get practise in for my clan matches. I used to play heaps of CTF, I
love it, its a great team game, would be great if people got back into it :) CA
is also a great way to work on your team game.TF pffft whats that? ;) Nah to be
honest I think i've only played TF once. TF is almost in a world of its own, and
I just never got into it. Dueling is great fun, if you need to become a better
Quaker I reckon dueling is the way to go. 2-on-2 is awesome, i get to use my
duel skills and my team skills. Playing teamplay 2 is the way to go, cos i find
alot of people who play 2 on 2 are trying to play a duel game and don't really
work as a team with their partner, and they end up killing each other more than
the opposition ;)
Challenge-au:
Are you playing much Quake2? What do you like most about it? Where
do you stand on the Q vs Q2 debate?
Bitchy:
Quake 2? uhhh I don't
play QuakeII, thats all i have to say. Although I would give QuakeII duel a
go.
Challenge-au:
Are you seeing many new, younger players coming onto GolSyd? Who is
standing out?
Bitchy:
It's amazing how many
great players have come into the scene. Re-load came from nowhere and he would
by far have to be the best "new" player. Others who are standing out are Knight
and and rj, dunno when they got so good:P I don't like to pick out players but a
few who have caught my eye are Shadow[CW], Ootic and DonutKing, they are 3 very
good players and I can see the potential for them to become K5's or Bro's
;)
Challenge-au:
Who are the top female players around NSW? Do you play with them
often? Who is standing out?
Bitchy:
NSW? well sheesh there
aren't many of us unfortunately. The ones I know are GoDZillA, Sexy, Crazy
Dasiy, MagicM Callisto and Nutella. They are ALL very good players. Godzy is a
kick arse player for the amount of time she puts in. If she had more time to
play I reckon she would be awesome! Sexy cains on LAN shes not much of an online
player, the times i saw her play she was kicking assss. Crazy Daisy as we all
know is the best female Quaker in Oz. Although she hasn't been playing alot
lately I know it would only take her a few days to be back to her best ;) MagicM
doesn't play alot but I wish she would get into it more she has the potential to
kick arse :) Callisto formerly known as Princess Jaxx is a great player, I think
she gets tips from her man who is also a kick arse player :) The times I saw
nutella play I thought she was playing very well. Not sure what happened to her
though. It's funny cos there's not alot of female quakers, but as always when
women get into a male majority sport they always shine. Women love beating guys
at their own game, there is no better feeling, and I have never met a female
Quake player who doesn't kick arse.News has it that a new all female clan will
be coming soon. The line up I have seen seems unbeatable in my opinion. So guys
watch out the women are coming to get you :P
Challenge-au:
Any interesting news you can tell us – what’s coming up at
GolSyd?
Bitchy:
Well as most people
know we are sponsoring GibCon and we have recently received some awesome prizes
from our mates at id software. So there will be some lucky winners at GibCon.
GolSyd are also sponsoring some online comps, like Duel, 2 on 2 and CA. Alot of
kewl prizes in those so good luck everyone :) We are currently working on
organising one of those famous "GOL BBQ's" free grog (for clients ofcourse) :P,
Quake for those who want to play drunk, it's basically going to be one of those
bonding parties:P It's great for Quakers, cos we love that kinda stuff....should
be a blast. That's coming soon. We are also working on a new plan for GolSyd
customers. We are putting the two plans together that is the Local Plan and the
Data Plan. Alot of customers have gotten 2 accounts so they will be happy to
hear about this plan.
Challenge-au:
Is it true that Wireplay offered TS a sponsorship deal? What
happened with that?
Bitchy:
Well to put it simply
TS were offered the chance to become Australian Quake's "stars". We were going
to do a heap of interviews, get to be on TV, radio etc...all we had to do was
endorse Wireplay. It didn't take us long to realise we were dealing with
completely unprofesional people who didn't know the first thing about Quake. The
lies they told and the way they used people to their advantage immediately
showed us that they were not the kind of people we wished to be sponsored by. We
don't believe that they offer the BEST Quake servers. They lie about their
pings, their connections and we wanted nothing to do with them. We declined
their offer and all ties with them have been broken. The were just another
Tel$tra corp.
Challenge-au:
Do you venture out onto other servers much? If so, where might you
go? How often?
Bitchy:
Not often, GolSyd has
a wide variety of servers and all the best players seem to be there. So it's
perfect for me :)
Challenge-au:
If this Quake Challenge set-up works and is fast enough, you’re
going to get a chance to play against Kornelia. Have you watched her demos? What
do you think?
Bitchy:
I think she cains.
It's going to be a great experience for me playing against her. I prefer not to
comment on how well I know her tactics though ;)
