FFF'99 Player Interview - Meet Geo

July 31, 1999

Twenty year old Stephanie Leigh Smith (aka GEORGIANA) from Danville, VA  is a long time girl gamer. For the FFF event, she is fragging her way through the HPB East division! Watch out girls... she may have a really bad net connect... but she sure knows how to use it!!!

[FFF.com] How long have you been playing id/shooter games?
[geo]: Hmm...I'd have to say 5 years.

[FFF.com] What is the first computer game you remember playing?
[geo]: It was either hexen or heretic..cant remember which...heh heh

[FFF.com] Are you playing any games now other than Q2?
[geo]: Half-Life! TFC primarily, but I've been trying to sneak in a few games of QW and Jedi Knight now and then. As far as games that aren't FPS, I've been playing Worms Armageddon and Caesar III

[FFF.com] Hah Worms rocks :)
[geo]: Yep! But I can't get past bronze medal in basic training, and I've lost all but 2 games I've played so far =p, but it is still fun. I also completely suck at Caesar, but that's another story. =]

[FFF.com] Are you in any clans or guilds?
[geo]: I have been a member of Clan PMS for 2 years (in September it'll be 2 officially). I am also member of KoI (the Knights of Iron)...I'm not an active member...i just kinda got drafted ;],  and I am also a member of FUN which really isn't a clan anymore, but a way of life. (cult, maybe?) =]

[FFF.com] Why did you join the FFF?
[geo]: Cause its cool. =] I've been out of playing for so long due to real life... and this was also a really great opportunity for me to get back into the swing of things.

[FFF.com] So far, what do you think of the FFF'99 tourney?
[geo]: It's great!  I've met some new, really cool people, and have had a good time doing it!

[FFF.com] Let's talk about your Round 1 match. I have to admit your first game demo was impressive.  More impressive than the fact that you played the game with a 999 ping (and won), is the fact you didn't complain about your obvious extreme lag during the match, or ask for a rematch.  What was it like for you playing that game?
[geo]: Hahah! Before the game I just knew it would be no contest...no contest in the fact that I would never be able to move and Ancratyne would just get to smack me around for 20 minutes, or I would have to forfeit. We had to try twice to play...the first time I wouldn't even count because I phone jacked so much and spent so much time trying to reconnect I personally probably got 5 minutes of gametime in =p. The second time around was much better....I had to reconnect to the server probably 3 times in the first 10 minutes but after that it was surprisingly smooth despite my horrid ping. I guess the ping gods smiled upon me that day (or is it the packet loss gods?)... anyway I am still amazed that I actually won. =]

[FFF.com] So after 2 wins in the HPB East division, you landed a defeat and are now facing off with FFFVicster. How do you feel about your upcoming match?
[geo]: Somewhat nervous....I don't know Vicster so I've never played her, and don't know what to expect...other than that both of us will probably have a great time fraggin'!

[ed: Geo vs. Vicster: Sunday August 1st @ 9 PM EST]

[FFF.com] Want to share a tip or strategy of yours for any Quake II level?
[geo]: Lava is bad, so is shooting rockets into nearby walls and floors. these are things that should be avoided at all costs =D. Other than my constant chanting "I F$%^&* HATE LAVA!", I really don't have a strategy... seems when I actually try to use a strategy, it never works.  =p

See round 3, geo vs. msdead - I was trying sooo hard to keep the armor, chaingun and RL under my control but it didn't work and I kept getting sucked in by the nasty lava!

[FFF.com] So, do you just jump in, play hard and hope for the best then?
[geo]: Pretty much! Fly by the seat of my armor... ;]

[FFF.com] If you could change any one thing in Quake II, or add something what would it be?
[geo]: *thinks*
OH GOD MY BRAIN CAUGHT FIRE!
j/k! ;p

[ed: Both interviewer and interviewee pause for a brief moment...]

[geo]: I guess the only thing I could ask for would be perfect netplay with no lag whatsoever, but we all know that is not possible =p. I can however think of something I want in Quake 3 though... GRENADES, DAMNIT! Lots of 'em!

[FFF.com] Any words of wisdom you'd like to share with other FFF'99 players?
[geo]: Stay cool...it's all fun no matter if you win or lose! =D
