FFF'99 Player Interview - Meet TankGirl

July 27, 1999

Twenty-eight year old Angela West (aka TankGirl) from Hamilton, Ohio is a long time id-game fan. For the FFF event, she is fragging her way through the HPB East divison of the FFF event! If your a west coast girl (or you just enjoy staying up all night) , you'll most likely run into this night owl!

[FFF.com] How long have you been playing "id games" ?
[TankGirl]: The first "id games" I played were Doom and Wolfenstein3D. A couple of my friends setup a lan in a spare room. Vipros would throw these wild parties every other weekend and three of us would disappear to the computer room to play deathmatch; leaving his girlfriend with all the guests. We still get together on occasion and play Duke Nukem and Quake2. And yeah he has a new girlfriend now <grin>. When the Quake demo was released I decided it was time to build my own computer or risk not seeing my husband.   These days I mostly play Q2 CTF and Rocket Arena.

[FFF.com] What other games do you play?
[TankGirl]: A lot of UnReal, I'm currently working on new maps which will be a trilogy of an anime storyline I saw 2 minutes of like 18 years ago. hmm I know that sounds strange but sometimes we just gotta wait till technology catches up to needs. My newest game is MechWarrior3. Which is great for building strategy........between spending quality time with my daughter who shares a pc next to mine and UnRealED ....I might beat this game =)

[FFF.com] Are you in a Quake Clan? If so, tell us a bit about your clan.
[TankGirl]: A couple years ago I probably would have laughed at the idea of joining a clan. Loyalty is not something easily given or received but is necessary in a team environment. Last year I joined Psycho Men Slayers to get an opportunity to play with other women who enjoyed playing Q2 as much as I do. One of the better decisions I have made imho. After joining I soon learned how to play Rocket Arena by BostonChick who taught me the strategy of the game and a better way to rocket jump without a script. (If you haven't tried this mod out yet you should it is worth it.) Although we play Q2 and other games together PMS is much more than getting together and fragging. We share friendships that are more like family.  I now plan my vacations to travel 200-500+ miles a year to visit and play on a 20 ping with my sisters.

[FFF.com] What do you enjoy most about playing Quake II?
[TankGirl]: Most definitely the adrenaline rush that hits while grabbing the flag out of an enemy base or rocket jumping off your opponents head in Rocket Arena leaving gib and that funny looking skull that sits in mid-air defying Q2 gravity.

[FFF.com] What is your favorite MOD?
[TankGirl]: CTF!! what? there are others!?

[FFF.com] Want to share a tip or strategy of yours for any Quake II level?
[TankGirl]: While playing on q2dm1 you can rocket jump and hide in the invisable room above........

[FFF.com] If you could change any one thing in Quake II, or add something what would it be?
[TankGirl]: Quake2 models could definately use an update from the default stone statue look. And it may just be me but I find it disturbing they have no faces *shudders*.

[FFF.com] Why did you decide to join the FFF'99?
[TankGirl]: Mix Quake2 and add a bunch of women who prefer terms like "fragfest" over "that's cute" how could it not be fun?

[FFF.com] So far, what do you think of the tourney?  Are you meeting any new Quake girls?
[TankGirl]: I have no reason to complain, info was laid out clear and I like the no BS (refering to the underage problem on bbs) accepted attitude by our hosts running the tourney and FFF players. I've met a few  in irc and on the heat servers. Being a nite-owl I've met mostly west coast ladies.

[FFF.com] What do you think your chances are of making it to the top 6 finalists?
[TankGirl]: *TankGirl duct tapes ACiDbaby's hands and mouth shutting her in a locked closet*
Much better chance now.

[FFF.com] Any words of wisdom you'd like to share with other FFF'99 players?
[TankGirl]: Working hard to get a competative edge is fun but when it comes time to compete take that time to have fun. Egos and tournaments don't play well together.
