FFF'99 Player Interview - Meet Trillian

July 19, 1999

Our first interview is with TrilllianQGz. Trillian (Alison Suttles) is a 24 year old lady from Portland, OR. Trillian and her 56k modem will be rocking in the HBP West Coast division for the FFF'99 event!

[FFF.com] How long have you been playing "id games" ?
[Trillian]: Gosh, I picked up Wolfenstein 3d for my Mac back when I started college... I guess that'd be about 6 years ago.  I played that for a bit and really enjoyed it but knew nothing of the great internet gaming world until about 3 years ago when I met up with this crazy gamer who is now my husband.  :c)  I played a bit of Q1 with him but never really got into it.  Then Q2 came out and I've been hooked since then.

[FFF.com] What other games do you play?
[Trillian]: I loved Diablo when it first came out.  I would've played more Baldur's Gate but my computer didn't like the game.  My current addiction is Quake3 but I also have been enjoying KingPin.  :c)  I guess I'm a big fan of FPS multiplayer and not usually of FPS single-player.  I do like adventure and role playing for single-player games.

[FFF.com] What do you enjoy most about playing Quake II?
[Trillian]: That's not an easy question to answer.  I enjoy fragging someone.  I enjoy the sense of accomplishment as I get better at the game and beat someone I may not have been able to the month prior.  I enjoy team games and strategy and working together.   I enjoy the community.  I just plain enjoy Quake! :c)

[FFF.com] What is your favorite MOD?
[Trillian]: Good ol' DM!  I guess the closest I come to playing MODs is OSP Tourney which is just a teamplay MOD.  I've dabbled in Rocket Arena, which I enjoy... but that's about it.   CTF just doesn't float mah boat.

Want to share a tip or strategy of yours for any Quake II level? Strategy... it's hard to put my strat in words and I don't know if I could do so without giving too much away... how about a suggestion?  No matter how much you hate to lose to people (this is from my own experience... cause I hate to lose), play people who are better than you.  Try to make sure they are not so good you have no time to improve or consider your strategy, but playing people who are better than you only makes you better... and it also helps prepare you for those times when your game is off and you just can't pull off a win.  Knowing how to lose is often as important as knowing how to win.

[FFF.com] Are you in a Quake Clan? If so, tell us a bit about your clan.
[Trillian]: Yesh!  QGirlZ!!  :c)  I've been a part of the clan for about a year now and have never had so much fun!  We are sisters... friends... fragmates... I wasn't sure what to expect when joining a female clan.  QGirlZ has never let me down and I can't imagine fragging without them!

[FFF.com] If you could change any one thing in Quake II, or add something what would it be?
[Trillian]: Honestly?  I have little to base it on.  I suppose if I'd been really into Q1 I might have some nuances of Q1 that I wish were captured in Q2... but I really enjoy Q2 as it is.  I like that you can customize your controls... and I enjoy my aliases... and I love playing.  :c)

[FFF.com] Why did you decide to join the FFF'99?
[Trillian]: Because I've never been in a tournament before and this one is for women! W00h00!  I may actually stand a chance of at least not being totally blown out of the water.   Besides, I really wanted everyone to see that women do play Quake... and that we can handle being competitive!  That's partly why I tried so hard to talk my fellow clanmates into signing up.  :c)

[FFF.com] So far what do you think of the tourney? Are you meeting any new Quake girls?
[Trillian]: I've met a few in passing, although I haven't really had the chance to hang out and get to know people.  I'm looking forward to what this tournament holds for the future but right now I'm still just getting used to the idea and trying to find time to actually practice.  I think the idea is excellent and I hope that FFF '99 is just the beginning!

[FFF.com] What do you think your chances are of making it to the top 6 finalists?
[Trillian]: Now that I've seen my competition??  I know it's going to be hard.  I'm confident in my abilities as a Quake player but I've also had the opportunity to frag with Lucidity and Dee before, both of whom are extremely good.  I will make no predictions because I honestly think there are many girlz in my division who could make it.  I do know that no matter what... HPB West is going to be represented by a talented female gamer!  :c)

[FFF.com] Any words of wisdom you'd like to share with other FFF'99 players?
[Trillian]: Remember that this tournament is good for all of us... no matter who makes it to the finals.  Play to have fun and make sure you come out of this tournament with at least one new friend!  :c)

You can find out more about Trillian on her personal page, and QGirlz on the clan website!
