  Kornelia Takacs
Professional Quake Player

DarkViper: What is the worse game you have ever played for the PC?

Kornelia: I don't recall any bad games. If I did run into a couple I probably didn't spend a lot of time playing it.

DarkViper: What is your favorite food, desert and after midnight snack?

Kornelia: Don't get me started on this one... :) I love crunchy cheetos, potato chips, peanut butter cups. Mostly I like Hungarian food and desserts but you can't get most of them out here. I like everything that tastes good. :) (I don't think that there are too many people out there who like food that tastes bad though.) Any of the times above are great for an after midnight snack. :)

DarkViper: Who influenced you the most in games to become a gamer?

Kornelia: No one really. I have a lot of respect to a few really good gamers because they just play so amazingly well. When I first started playing I just played for fun. Later on when I learned to play better I became more competitive and I started going to tournaments.

DarkViper: What game are you anticipating to play the most, that is coming soon?

Kornelia: It would have to be Quake Arena.

DarkViper: If you had a special power, what would it be?

Kornelia: When I was little me and my best friend wanted to be able to be invisible. Now hmm... (Haven't really given it much thought lately :) ) It would be very cool if I could just teleport to Budapest and back. :)

DarkViper: In competitions, what would be the hardest part of playing the match? The pressure from the audience, adrenaline and hype of the match, brain lag, or?

Kornelia: Whenever I'm playing an important match I just tune out everything else. I don't know how many people are watching (Which is good sometimes) and I don't know what's going on around me when I'm playing. I'd say the hardest part is the adrenaline. Right before the match during the countdown it gets very tense. I can hear my heart beat and I get really nervous usually due to the adrenaline rush.

DarkViper: How is your gaming career coming along? Any plans on writing strategy guides, webmastering.., or playing new games?

Kornelia: I'm definitely looking forward to playing Quake 3.

DarkViper: How many beatdowns have you won so far? And what in the world do you do with all of those chips?! :)

Kornelia: hehe So far I was lucky enough to win every one that I signed up for. We'd bring the chips home and since it's too big to just open it up when we're just by ourselves we always decide to have a party and open it then. Sometimes it would just sit around in my room. After a while I just decided to give it to homeless people. They can use it way better than me. (I live in Downtown LA and there are some nice but homeless guys in the area)

DarkViper: What is the gaming industry's best kept secret?

Kornelia: If I told you it wouldn't be a secret anymore. :)

I don't really think that the gaming industry has any particular secrets. If they do than they kept it a secret from me too. You find out a lot about people (sometimes not so good things) because this industry is so small.

DarkViper: How long have you been playing Quake for?

Kornelia: I've been playing since Q-test came out ages ago. It's been over 2 years now I think.

DarkViper: What do you think about mplayer.com?

Kornelia: I think it's cool! Even though I prefer Game spy because you can browse through a lot more servers and you get much better pings. Mplayer has a lot of cool contests and tourneys that I enjoyed participating in.

DarkViper: Do you plan on going to the next XP Quake Con?

Kornelia: I'd definitely would like to go!! :) XP has a lot of cool members and a lot of the guys happen to be local.

DarkViper: What is your favorite Quake Memory that would come to mind throughout your Quake'ing?

Kornelia: I had a LOT of fun and exciting moments playing CTF. Suddenly getting control back on dm3 in a 4 on 4 feels very good too. :) I'd say the highlight was definitely at CGDC '97 where I won my first tourney and right after I played John Romero. I wasn't as good back then and I was much more nervous than at any of my other tourneys and big matches since it was the first one. I wasn't used to the crowd and the whole tenseness of the competing live part. I won much more important tourneys since but that one was the sweetest. :)
