Quake Memories: There are so many memories to speak of but I think starting from the beginning of Quake 1 would be the best story, even if I am that type of person who likes to talk about things in-depth.

There was a drastic change in communities from coming from Command and
Conquer's strategy gamers then going to Quake on Mplayer.com. My first
encounter with Quake was just that. There were lots of players that played C&C that left to play Quake so it wasn't like people didn't know me when I played the game at first. They just automatically knew I was a newbie and needed a little help... well a lot of help really. Footmaster's crowd started a clan around the time Thresh had won the ferari in the Red Annihilation Tournament. I was actually a person who came into Quake about a week before the results of the tournament. Footmaster's little crowd were the guys I would hang out with. People like LA-Peace (who loved CTF), LA-Bitter (Bitterboy on T.E.N.), Ledbetter, Tensor, Megahertz and ExtraCrispy. Footmaster was my good buddy Lovemaker's older brother. Lovemaker was like the sweetest guy in teaching me so many things for Command and Conquer. There was a clan made by them later on called Exlax. This was a thing where all of the guys in the clan wanted to prove to everyone that it didn't matter what your clan's name was, you could really kick a** at Quake.

I gradually went to NetQuake on the kitty1.Stanford.edu servers (26000, 26001, 26666 and the 26005 the Arena server) when a few guys in Exlax mentioned a fun modification of Quake called Rage Arena. Leaving to a regular IP wasn't easy for me. I was so used to the way Mplayer would open up the game for me to play in.

By then I started playing a lot more Rage Arena than anything else. I loved the whole 1 vs 1 perspective of the game. I started meeting a lot of XP members and there my journey began, meeting players such as Unholy, Sinister (later on Orion), Little Dragon and Avatar. Unholy often spoke about this program he would chat in called IRC. I couldn't comprehend why anyone would like just plain text but now that years have passed by, it's an awesome chat program. Mplayer was always full of color and you were able to have different type of fonts. As for IRC back then, all I knew about was the white background, same everyone using the same black font.

I ran a website and met lots of different gamers back then. I later on created a profiles/interviews section of the people who were well known such as Thresh, Unholy, Da5id, Killcreek, Kornelia and so forth. I first met Killcreek and Kornelia around the time she was in the Queen of the Hill tournament for Quake 1. KC won the HPB while Nellie won LPB so I asked them both if I could email them an interview/profile. They were both very open about the idea.

After time went by, one day I was online talking to my friend Pookie on IRC.
She said she wanted to get into a Team DM game with her and I since we were both in the same clan. It sounded like fun going against other people on our own for once. We normally did that with four of us against other XP members or just other people random on the server. This was different for me, she wanted it to be 2vs2 match so it sounded like fun. Little did I know it was Kornelia that would show up on the server with another friend.

At first we logged on and were going to play Team DM but by the time we started it, some other people came on the server so Pooks asked Kornelia to play FFA. Kornelia was totally up for it. All I remember is it being on the DM6 map. When I kept seeing 'Kornelia kills so&so' many times over and over again across the screen I started REALLY getting concerned. I knew she was coming my way from the echoes of kills nearby in the map. All I remember is a flash around the corner and me trying to shoot but all in 5 seconds I was down/killed. I knew I wasn't that bad of a player either. She was just very talented at Quake and had been playing it for so much longer. The flash around the corner was a zap with the lighting gun and in that other second was a shot of the rocket launcher.

Later on I found out she has certain buttons in her configuration to change
quickly to certain weapons. That is how she was so quick with it all.

Other than that, I'd like to thank all of you who have been such great friends for all of these years. All of you mean a lot to me, each in their own way. I am honored to have made so many awesome friendships with gamers, webmasters, developers and publishers the past 6 years from the online gaming industry.

Modification Admiration: I wasn't ever a real modification fanatic. For Quake 1 I enjoyed the regular deathmatch for the longest time. Team Fortress was a fun mod. I met a lot of cool gamers from playing it.
