Back about four years ago I was
one of the few gamers sitting on the end of a 2mb permanent
connection, strangely enough most of the modemers did not like
me on their servers! Had a lovely ping and got accused of
spoiling it for others, did find it quite funny though.
Eventually this line hosted the server for the clan I was in
(Suicide Squad) and we conducted our practices there. Quake II
did take over my life for a bit. "Sorry dear I cannot come
out to dinner tonight I have a clan match,"
Something like that, but I
adored CTF and played my role in defense for a long while,
having a nice ping helped huge amount here! I got pretty good
with the railgun and was mean with the super shotgun (lovely
basic weapon). Highly amused when I would use the chaingun and
the modemers would have a slight modem hang to come back from
their frozen state, dead on the floor with me running off into
the distance. I was way better at CTF than
just plain deathmatch, and a whole weekend would disappear
into a fragging frenzy. I eventually turned in my rail gun to
get back my social life and weekends. I have no regrets, Quake
was fantastic, I loved those times, but these days I prefer my
meals out and my friends.
Modification Admiration:
CTF had some excellent mods, I
cannot even remember them now, its been such a long time. The
one I liked the most was set in a castle, lots of lava and
when one side captured the sound mod would play 'bad boys bad
boys, whatya gonna do... ' etc etc.. remember it?
